Letters from Our Readers

Readers engaged us on questions of war, peace, and the ways forward for organized resistance. Provocative comments came for “Why We Can’t Have Nice Things – Like A Fighting Green Party” and “Anti-Russian Hysteria Makes Americans Stupid”.

In “Why We Can’t Have Nice Things – Like A Fighting Green Party” Bruce Dixon exposes problems in the party from bureaucratic structures to “paper” state chapters and a faction on the steering committee that would rather silence and expel its members than build a fighting party.

Yuri S writes:

"That's a truly sad state of affairs. The US and the world need Green Parties, eco-socialist reformers at home and anti-imperialist abroad, but if the party is in such dysfunction like this and has ridiculous infighting like that then its just a recipe for disaster which humanity really doesn’t need given the horrible state of affairs we are in. That's really sobering and gives a bleak foresight, I only hope this will be sorted out but truly this is terrible."

Barbara Humphrey writes:

“I have often wondered if the Greens should put time and energy into electoral politics, given that the deck is stacked in favor of the mainstream parties and the MSMs control the deck. But I also realized that Greens could use electoral politics to get the message out. I chuckle that the Dems are now pushing the Green New Deal.

“But as I read about Paris, I wonder if it is time for the Greens to take to the streets in more meaningful ways. Why can't the Greens be the Yellow Vests of the US? I don't advocate for violence, but I have been advocating for years for a general strike. One day, one hour to show what is possible. Then two hours, then two days. And then as many hours and days necessary to change the systems of oppression, not just the faces in high places, be they white or black or brown or gay or latino(a).”

In radio segment “Anti-Russian Hysteria Makes Americans Stupid” Dan Kovalik, author of The Plot to Scapegoat Russia: How the CIA and the Deep State Have Conspired to Vilify Putin, discusses how the Deep State’s agenda is to stop the building of a peace movement.

On Facebook Elizabeth Cook says:

“You're stupid not to recognize how Putin is the enemy of the people, and how Russia's attempt influence over social events and movements.”

Dawn Gibson responds:

“I can tell that you're not a Black person living in the U.S. Many Black folks don’t give a f*** about Putin while we're tryna pay bills, fight eviction, and protect our kids from gentrifiers who criminalize them. Our enemies are here and murdering us.
“But go ahead and wring your hands over Big Bad Putin.”

We are glad to see our readers backing up our work challenging the narrative of the war party and its allies. We want to continue to engage with you about the best ways to build movements for peace and justice.
