A recent court ruling that “there was, in fact, judicial bias” in denying Mumia Abu Jamal’s appeal of his conviction in the 1982 death of a cop shows that “this is a different moment in American history,” said Johanna Fernandez, of the Campaign to Bring Mumia Home. A new “pathway to freedom” was opened by a “series of movements that exposed the criminality of the criminal justice system” and “shifted consciousness on the ground,” said Fernandez.
