Dr. Abdul El-Sayed won the Democratic Party primary for the senate in Michigan, defeating the establishment choice and AIPAC funded candidate. This outcome is part of a larger trend of insurgent, progressive candidates defeating democrats who have party support and large campaign war chests. Why did El-Sayed win?
