The nation’s best known political prisoner recently noticed “that I could no longer see a single face” among the “river of men passing by” in Pennsylvania’s Mahanoy prison. “I realized to my horror that I was functionally blind,” said Mumia Abu Jamal, who has spent 38 years of incarceration in the death of a Philadelphia cop. “My vision has become sp poor that I’ve used voices to recognize people, as a blind man does.”
