The Black Alliance for Peace Stands in Solidarity with Venezuela Against the Assault on its Democracy

Venezuelan rally

The election interference and subsequent US backed protests in Venezuela are another attempt to destabilize the nation and stop the ongoing Bolivarian Revolution. But the masses will remain strong.

The Black Alliance for Peace (BAP) gives full solidarity to the people of Venezuela who demonstrated once again that they would not succumb to the lawless, anti-democratic interference into their internal processes, reflected by the United States government’s attempt to undermine the free and fair election of Nicolas Maduro as the country’s president.

As a means of interfering in its internal affairs, the US levied crippling sanctions against Venezuela in 2018, directly contributing to the deaths of tens of thousands of Venezuelans when the country was denied food, medicines and even vaccines during a global pandemic. In 2019 the US went as far as recognizing an opposition politician- who never even ran for the office- as the president of Venezuela. Current claims by the US that they support democracy in Venezuela are simply laughable.

In order to interfere with the 2024 elections, the US government announced and imposed a new round of sanctions against the South American nation in April, just months before the elections, signaling more pain for the Venezuelan people if they did not support the US puppet candidate.

Despite the illegal sanctions and election interference by the US, the Venezuelan people reaffirmed their commitment to independence and their collective dignity.

During this time of naked imperialism, BAP’s commitment to democracy, people(s)-centered human rights and peace compels us to take an unambiguous stance with the people of Venezuela and all who struggle for our Americas- and indeed the world- to become a Zone of Peace.

The current right wing administration in the US continues to support the right wing inside of Venezuela, undermining the democratic process and violating the will of the people in Venezuela. We stand with Venezuela to defeat those violations of national sovereignty. As such, BAP will continue our efforts to build an alternative in the US that will undermine the ability of the US to engage in its ongoing global criminal enterprises.

BAP congratulates the people of Venezuela and pledges that we will continue to work to de-militarize our region, alter the relations of power in the U.S. and become a participant in the region-wide struggle to build a new “Americas” and a new world.
