Black Agenda Radio · Robert Brooks, Rikers Island and the Fight Against New York Incarceration

The subject of our discussion is mass incarceration in New York City and New York State. We are joined by Darren Mack, co-founder and co-director of Freedom Agenda, an organization devoted to decarceration and system transformation, including closing the Rikers Island jail. These issues have gained importance in the wake of the killing of Robert Brooks, who died after being beaten by corrections officers in a New York state prison. The officers involved in his death were already the subjects of complaints and lawsuits which had been brought to the attention of Attorney General Leticia James. Darren Mack joins us from New York City.
