Veteran prisoner rights advocate Efia Nwangaza said leaders of the recent national prison strike should have paid more attention to local prisoner support groups. “I’m in communication with advocates across the country,” said Nwangaza, director of the Malcolm X Center for Self-Determination, in Greenville, South Carolina, “and a common complain has been that the national strike leaders have not respected and worked with those who have been engaged in prison community-building over the years.”
