The militarization of US police has been a gradual process underway since the black rebellions of the late 1960s, says Glen Ford. What's different is that it's only recently become part of the broader American public conversation. Democrats especially in election years, he adds, work hard to keep black conversations out of the public eye, lest they be labeled the party of black people.
