The women of the Black Panther Party embraced the models established by women in Vietnam, North Korea and China, in part “to change the culture within the party,” said Benjamin Young, a professor at Dakota State University and author of an article in the political journal “Soul” titled, “Imagining Revolutionary Feminism: Communist Asia and the Women of the Black Panther Party.” “There were a lot of issues within the party when it came to the treatment of women,” said Young.
