Ethiopia–Eritrea Tensions: Is the Media Telling the Full Story?
Ann Garrison, BAR Contributing Editor , Daniel Teklai
04 Nov 2026
🖨️ Print Article

How is media coverage shaping our understanding of tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea? Whose claims get repeated, and whose perspective gets left out? Independent journalist and BAR Contributing Editor, Ann Garrison, joins Daniel Teklai to examine the reporting, competing narratives, and U.S. foreign policy interests surrounding the Ethiopia–Eritrea confrontation. They discuss the sources journalists rely on, the influence of U.S. foreign policy on coverage, and the responsibility to question claims without inflaming regional tensions.

Daniel Teklai is the Founder & Executive Director of EritreaNEXT.

Ann Garrison is a Black Agenda Report Contributing Editor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2014, she received the Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza Democracy and Peace Prize for her reporting on conflict in the African Great Lakes region. She can be reached at ann@anngarrison.com.
