I.
*Gaslighting

Don’t they change?
Some lie all night
Some lie all day—
Nazis and racists—
Settler U-S-A
Violently right—
Fascist decay—
Ol’ confederates
Fighting blue v. gray …

II.
Rust-belted Renaissance

Searchlight eyes cast north! Eluding ghosts of kleptocrats morphed
Into coups; earthquakes; assassinations! Chasing elusive dreams out
Bottles of
Better lives … like masses of millennia … Woke eyes cast north—on
Viceroys of capitalism. Purveyors of violence. On Plunderers of their
Proud motherland—Never forgiven for smashed shackles: 220 yrs. ago

Ghost town shops long silent—suddenly abuzz with Creole!
French! And hourly-improving English! Rust-belted Buckeye
State factory floors, loading docks—repopulated by hardworking
Haitians! Idle, awakened, restarted—machines are once again alive!

III.
‘White’ terror tropes

‘White’ supremacist venom of a convicted felon washes over
Weaponized words of his sleazy sidekick.
It explodes into 33 bomb threats! Closes hospitals, schools,
Shops, offices! Temporarily halts essential work …

Division’s desperate math of the parasitical, champagne-caviar
Minority. Division’s desperate math of MAGAt wedges—
Driven into skulls of working-class millions—for FOX-box
Lobotomies!
Division’s mess hall math, multiplying anti-Black slop!
Big lie gumbo! 1/2 truths! Misinformation! Disinformation!
Super-sized servings of Psy-Op soup—stinking hot like
Packs of southern senators, windsurfing on rivers of raw sewage …

Division’s math for gaslighting grandchildren of Goebbels shrieking:
Hardworking, working-class Haitians are “eating ‘white’ peoples’ pets!”
And Mexicans are murderers and rapists—
Dropping children off at school … On the way to work …

*Inspired by the Lee Holridge and Al Jarreau song “Moonlighting.”
