“Brutality Bonds”

Cities have gone billions of dollars in debt to pay for court settlements and judgments against brutal cops, with the profits from these so-called “brutality bonds” going mainly to large banks. Angela Peoples, of the Action Center on Race and the Economy, said most cities don’t even keep track of the “brutality debt,” or of the officers that are responsible for it. “Why aren’t they being held accountable for the amount of spending that’s going towards police violence?” she asked.
