Artists Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé “represent a kind of ethos of Black political commitment in the 21st century, said Aria Halliday, professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of New Hampshire. Halliday co-authored an article in the Black journal “Souls,” titled “The Power of Black Girl Magic Anthems: Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, and ‘Feeling Myself’ as Political Empowerment.”
