“Scientific Assassinations” are Part of the CIA’s Modus Operandi

President Hugo Chavez believed that foreign enemies had given him and other Latin American leftist leaders cancer. His successor agrees that “Chavez was struck in a ‘scientific attack’ by Venezuela’s ‘historical enemies.’” No one doubts Washington’s willingness to use its thousands of stockpiled doses of “oncogenic and immunosuppressive viruses.”

Scientific Assassinations” are Part of the CIA’s Modus Operandi

This article previously appeared in Global Research.

Chavez said the probability of so many Latin American leaders developing cancer at the same time was ‘difficult to explain.’”

The Guardian newspaper’s self-proclaimed Venezuela expert Rory Carroll has glibly categorized serious charges that Venezuela’s late President Hugo Chavez Frias was assassinated by a United States-produced bio-weapon as being in the same league with “conspiracy theorists who wonder about aliens at Roswell and NASA faking the moon landings.” A number of Venezuelan and international officials believe a hostile party covertly introduced an aggressive form of cancer into the 58-year old president.

Carroll also wrote that Chavez, himself, believed that the cancers that befell former leftist leaders of Latin America, including Argentine President Nestor Kirchner, diagnosed with colon cancer and Brazilian President Ignacio Lula da Silva, treated for throat cancer, were part of a CIA plot directed against left-wing leaders. Curiously, Carroll suggests that Uruguay’s former leftist president, Tabare Vazquez, also recovered from cancer.

In fact, Vazquez never had cancer. Furthermore, he is a renowned oncologist trained in France. It was Paraguay’s former president, Fernando Lugo who was ousted in a 2012 CIA-backed right-wing coup, who was diagnosed with lymphoma, cancer of the immune system. Carroll simply proclaims that because all three ex-leaders recovered from cancer, there was nothing to the U.S. cancer assassination weapon story.

Carroll conveniently omitted the cancers that have struck other Latin American leaders, including Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, afflicted with thyroid cancer, and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, struck with lymphoma. After beginning peace talks with the left-wing Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Colombia’s conservative president Juan Manuel Santos was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Chavez, himself, believed that the cancers that befell former leftist leaders of Latin America were part of a CIA plot.”

Venezuela’s acting President Nicolas Maduro charged that Chavez was struck in a “scientific attack” by Venezuela’s “historical enemies.” The U.S. State Department claimed the notion was absurd». Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov speculated that is was far from coincidental that six leftist leaders all contracted cancer at around the same time.

Cuba’s Fidel Castro, himself the target of several CIA biological assassination attempts, told Chavez: “Chávez take care. These people [the Americans] have developed technology. You are very careless. Take care what you eat, what they give you to eat… a little needle and they inject you with I don’t know what.”

Castro almost died from a mysterious stomach and intestinal ailment he contracted after attending a parallel “People’s Summit” held concurrent to the July 2006 Cordoba MERCOSUR (Common Market of the South) Summit with Chavez and Nestor Kirchner.

A U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires cable dated July 26, 2006, demonstrated Washington’s displeasure with Castro’s and Chavez’s presence in Cordoba with Kirchner: “What was remarkable about the summit was the degree to which Argentina and Brazil, the two key protagonists in MERCOSUR since its founding, played secondary roles at this summit, while Chavez and Castro dominated.”

Of the three People’s Summit participants, Kirchner and Chavez are now dead. Kirchner died from a sudden heart attack and Chavez’s aggressive cancer began in his pelvic region.

Chavez said the probability of so many Latin American leaders developing cancer at the same time was “difficult to explain.”

General Jose Ornella, the head of the Venezuelan Presidential Guard, said it may be fifty years before details of the “hand of the enemy” in Chavez’s death is disclosed in a declassified document.

General Ornella and others may not have to wait another fifty years for the smoking gun documents on America’s cancer weaponry to be divulged. The records have already been declassified and are available, although many records were destroyed by the CIA under director Richard Helms in the early 1970s.

Although the 1972 Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, ratified by the United States, the Soviet Union, and Great Britain, banned the use and possession of biological weapons, the Army-Central Intelligence Agency’s Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, Maryland and the CIA’s Technical Services Department continued to maintain and develop stockpiles of cancer-causing biological agents used in special delivery weapons.

Castro almost died from a mysterious stomach and intestinal ailment.”

The biological agents and their weapons were specifically developed as part of the top secret MKNAOMI project, a joint operation conducted by the CIA and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick.

But America’s use of cancer-causing biological warfare agents had its start long before the outset of the Cold War and the first victims of such weapons were Latin Americans. In 1931, Dr. Cornelius P. Rhoads, a white racist and anti-Latin American scientist with the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Investigations in San Juan, subjected 13 Puerto Ricans to experiments by injecting them with cancer-causing biological agents.

The head of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party, Pedro Albizu Campos, also known as “El Maestro,” obtained a letter from Rhoads to a friend in which Rhoads wrote of Puerto Ricans:

I can get a damn fine job here and am tempted to take it. It would be ideal except for the Porto [sic] Ricans. They are beyond doubt the dirtiest, laziest, most degenerate and thievish race of men ever inhabiting this sphere. It makes you sick to inhabit the same island with them. They are even lower than Italians.

What the island needs is not public health work but a tidal wave or something to totally exterminate the population. It might then be livable. I have done my best to further the process of extermination by killing off 8 and transplanting cancer into several more. The latter has not resulted in any fatalities so far . . . The matter of consideration for the patients’ welfare plays no role here – in fact all physicians take delight in the abuse and torture of the unfortunate subjects.”

Albizu complained to the League of Nations but it came to no avail. In 1950, Albizu was arrested in a crackdown on Puerto Rican nationalist activities on the island and Albizu was subjected to radiation burns and poisoning.

NSA Chief Called CIA ‘Out of Control

There is little doubt that Rhoads, who directed the Army’s chemical and biological weapons programs at Fort Detrick, the Dugway Proving Ground and Deseret Test Center in Utah, and the Panama Canal Zone, subjected Albizu to revenge experimentation. Rhoads then went on to the staff of the Atomic Energy Commission, which also subjected American citizens to dangerous radiation tests.

Albizu suffered a stroke in prison in 1956. In 1964, he was pardoned but died shortly after his release from prison in 1965. The Guardian, the U.S. State Department, and the Pentagon can harp on all they want about “absurd” charges and “conspiracy theories” but it is a fact that Puerto Rico’s nationalist leader was assassinated by the United States in brutal medical experiments while he was in prison. And if that is what the United States is willing to do to its own citizens, to what have foreign adversaries of the United States been subjected?

MKNAOMI planned to assassinate Fidel Castro and Congolese Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba with “exotic” biological weapons. The work on such weapons was carried out by the CIA’s Technical Services chief Dr. Sidney Gottlieb. Other affiliated CIA and U.S. Army bio-warfare weapons programs had the code names of DORK and OFTEN/CHICKWIT.

The National Cancer Institute, while looking for a cure for cancer, spun off an intelligence agency “carve out” project under the Viral Cancer Project that researched military applications for cancer-causing biological agents.

Puerto Rico’s nationalist leader was assassinated by the United States in brutal medical experiments while he was in prison.”

The work was centered at Fort Detrick and, after the 1972 Biological Warfare Convention was signed by President Richard Nixon, secret work on “the large scale production of oncogenic and suspected oncogenic viruses” continued with the net result in 1977 being the successful production of 60,000 liters of oncogenic and immunosuppressive viruses.

In 1970, the CIA’s Deputy Director for Plans, Thomas Karamessines, recommended that if the proposed Biological Warfare Convention was ratified, the CIA’s stockpile of bio-warfare agents should be transferred from Detrick to the Huntingdon Research Center of the Becton-Dickinson Company, in Baltimore.

The CIA’s and Pentagon’s secret carve out program at Fort Detrick included in its stockpiles botulinum toxins, which can cause deadly food poisoning. Other research included the aerosol transmission of cancer-causing viruses and production of “species jumping” viruses that would jump from animal species to humans with the intent of causing cancer.

One of the first cancer weapon victims of the CIA’s bio-assassination program may have been Angola’s first president, Agostinho Neto.

Neto, who was targeted by the CIA in violation of congressional prohibitions, quickly developed cancer in 1979 and died in a Moscow hospital before the age of 57. Another CIA victim may have been former Chilean President Eduardo Frei, who became an outspoken adversary of the CIA-installed dictator General Augusto Pinochet. Frei died in a Santiago hospital on January 22, 1982 after contracting a suspicious infection after routine surgery.

The CIA pioneered in the use of cancer-causing agents that could infect their victims through injection; inhalation; skin contact through contaminated clothing, especially underwear – Chavez’s formation of aggressive in his pelvic region is germane in this respect; and contact with the digestive system through the use of contaminated food, drink, and even toothpaste.

There is such a wealth of documentation on the CIA’s use of cancer weapons against its enemies that the existence of such weapons is not the issue. The only issues are for Venezuela and other victimized countries to determine how the cancer-causing agents were delivered and the identities of the assassins and would-be assassins.

William Blum on Chavez Assasination.

William Blum talked about the possibility of the U.S. being responsible for Chavez's death in his latest Empire Report.

http://williamblum.org/aer/read/114

"There was no one in the entire universe that those who own and run “United States, Inc.” wanted to see dead more than Hugo Chávez. He was worse than Allende. Worse than Fidel Castro. Worse than any world leader not in the American camp because he spoke out in the most forceful terms about US imperialism and its cruelty. Repeatedly. Constantly. Saying things that heads of state are not supposed to say. At the United Nations, on a shockingly personal level about George W. Bush. All over Latin America, as he organized the region into anti-US-Empire blocs.

Long-term readers of this report know that I’m not much of a knee-reflex conspiracy theorist. But when someone like Chávez dies at the young age of 58 I have to wonder about the circumstances. Unremitting cancer, intractable respiratory infections, massive heart attack, one after the other … It is well known that during the Cold War, the CIA worked diligently to develop substances that could kill without leaving a trace. I would like to see the Venezuelan government pursue every avenue of investigation in having an autopsy performed.

Back in December 2011, Chávez, already under treatment for cancer, wondered out loud: “Would it be so strange that they’ve invented the technology to spread cancer and we won’t know about it for 50 years?” The Venezuelan president was speaking one day after Argentina’s leftist president, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, announced she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. This was after three other prominent leftist Latin America leaders had been diagnosed with cancer: Brazil’s president, Dilma Rousseff; Paraguay’s Fernando Lugo; and the former Brazilian leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“Evo take care of yourself. Correa, be careful. We just don’t know,” Chávez said, referring to Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales, and Rafael Correa, the president of Ecuador, both leading leftists.

Chávez said he had received words of warning from Fidel Castro, himself the target of hundreds of failed and often bizarre CIA assassination plots. “Fidel always told me: ‘Chávez take care. These people have developed technology. You are very careless. Take care what you eat, what they give you to eat … a little needle and they inject you with I don’t know what.” 1

When Vice President Nicolas Maduro suggested possible American involvement in Chávez’s death, the US State Department called the allegation absurd. 2

Several progressive US organizations have filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the CIA, asking for “any information regarding or plans to poison or otherwise assassinate the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, who has just died.”

I personally believe that Hugo Chávez was murdered by the United States. If his illness and death were NOT induced, the CIA – which has attempted to assassinate more than 50 foreign leaders, many successfully 3 – was not doing its job.

When Fidel Castro became ill several years ago, the American mainstream media was unrelenting in its conjecture about whether the Cuban socialist system could survive his death. The same speculation exists now in regard to Venezuela. The Yankee mind can’t believe that large masses of people can turn away from capitalism when shown a good alternative. It could only be the result of a dictator manipulating the public; all resting on one man whose death would mark finis to the process."

Hello Dr. West

There may be another front in the European war on people of color in Latin America and Africa.

Along with economic sabotage, war, terrorism, destabilization, puppeteering/tokenism and/or political assassinations, the Vatican has promoted its Italian foot soldier in the war on liberation theology and the left in Latin America:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mobileweb/2013/03/13/pope-francis-kidnappi...

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/03/14/pope-m14.html

The US and international media conglomerates have largely ignored the serious questions that have been raised in Argentina about Bergoglio’s role within the Church during the military’s rule between 1976 and 1983. During this time an estimated 30,000 left-wing opponents of the junta were “disappeared” in a US-backed “dirty war”. The Argentinian Catholic Church enjoyed intimate relations with the military, both in the lead up to its seizure of power and under the junta.

Bergoglio was ordained in 1969, and served as the Jesuit Provincial (elected leader of the order) for Argentina between 1973 and 1979, before becoming rector of the Philosophical and Theological Faculty of San Miguel between 1980 and 1986. In the 1990s he began to be promoted up the Church hierarchy by Pope John Paul II.

Under the junta rule, Bergoglio worked to enforce within his Jesuit order the Vatican’s edicts against “liberation theology”.

This movement had been founded by reformist elements within the Latin American church in the 1960s, seeking to focus on the plight of the poor as a means of maintaining the Church’s position amid a political radicalisation of the working class across the continent.

In 1976, Bergoglio demanded that two Jesuit priests—Orlando Yorio and Francisco Jalics—cease preaching liberation theology and leave the slums where they were woorking.

After they refused, Bergoglio had them removed from the order. The two men were subsequently kidnapped and tortured by the military. According to Associated Press:

“Yorio accused Bergoglio of effectively handing them over to the death squads by declining to tell the regime that he endorsed their work.”

Argentinian journalist Horacio Verbitsky wrote a book in 2005 covering the affair, El Silencio: de Paulo VI a Bergoglio: las relaciones secretas de la Iglesia con la ESMA. “He put the safety of the [Jesuit] Society of Jesus above the safety of the priests,” Verbitsky alleged.

The case was brought before the Argentinian courts by a human rights lawyer in 2005, but remains unresolved. Bergoglio has denied the allegations, accusing Verbitsky of “slander”. He maintains that he intervened privately with the junta on behalf of the two priests after their detention, and secured their release.

Bergoglio was called to testify in the case after a Catholic lay worker, María Elena Funes, who was imprisoned at the infamous ESMA (navy mechanics) torture center, testified in relation to the disappearance of the French nuns Alice Domon and Leonie Duquet and said that the two priests had been abducted by the military after Bergoglio took away their protection.

Luis Zamora, the former national deputy and lawyer in the case, described Bergoglio’s testimony as “reticent,” adding, “When someone is reticent, they are lying, they are hiding part of the truth.”

In another episode, Bergoglio has been accused of ignoring the pleas for help from a family that lost five of its members to the junta, including a young woman who was five months pregnant before she was kidnapped and killed in 1977. Bergoglio allegedly assigned a junior colleague to the case, who was subsequently given a note from a colonel explaining that the young woman had given birth while in detention and that the baby had been given to an “important” family. Despite his involvement in this case, Bergoglio testified in 2010 that he did not know about stolen babies until after the fall of the dictatorship.

After the end of military rule, now Pope Francis worked to shield the criminals within the armed forces. In 2006 he endorsed a public protest organised by ex-military and right-wing forces demanding blanket immunity from prosecution for crimes committed during the junta. In 2012, responding to growing disgust among ordinary Argentineans, Bergoglio issued a statement on behalf of the country’s bishops formally apologising for the Church’s “failures” during the “dirty war”—while at the same time placing equal blame for the violence on the military dictatorship and its left-wing opponents.

“History condemns him,” Reuters reported Fortunato Mallimacci, the former dean of social sciences at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, as saying. “It shows him to be opposed to all innovation in the church and above all, during the dictatorship, it shows he was very cosy with the military.”

Out of Curiousity I Took a Look at WSWS' Take On Chavez

It's enough to make you shake your head as they use terms like Bourgeois-Nationalist & Pseudo-socialism, etc- to describe Chavez & his tenure as Venezuela's President. They even go so far as to compare the so-called 'pseudo-left's' praise of Chavez to US 'liberals' support for Obama [HUHH??- WOW!]!!

It's often amazing to see what bag WSWS will jump out of next. They gave rave reviews to that slick pseudo-historical propaganda piece 'Lincoln' [their pick for Best Picture of 2012] - Yet gave NO critique on just why & how Bourgeois Holly-weird Liberal Steven Spielberg 'canonized' 'Ole {dis}Honest Abe' as the slaves 'great-white savior'- while effectively writing Black freedom fighters like Fredrick Douglas, Harriet Tubman, etc - out of their [our] own history!

A Rebuke of WSWS' Position on Chavez Without Even Naming WSWS

From the Global-Research Article: 'Pres Hugo Chavez: A 21st Century Renaissance Man' [@ www.globalresearch.ca/president-hugo-chavez-a-21st-century-renaissance-man/5326842 ]: }

Political Theory and Practice- The Grand Synthesizer: One of the most profound and influential aspects of Chavez’s legacy is his original synthesis of 3 grand strands of political thought: popular Christianity [aka Liberation theology], Bolivarian nationalist & regional integration, and Socialist political, social & economic thought.  Chavez’ Christianity informed his deep belief in justice and the equality of people, as well as his forgiveness of adversaries even as they engaged in a violent coup, a crippling lockout, or openly collaborated and received financing from enemy intelligence agencies [= treason].  Whereas any where else in the world, armed assaults against the state and coup d’états would result in long prison sentences or even executions, under Chavez most of his violent adversaries escaped prosecution and even rejoined their subversive organizations [IMO admirable but a likely tactical mistake - Yet it's noteworthy that even though Chavez showed great tolerance by refraining from reprisals vs those that conspired to over-throw him- never-the-less they & the US, et-al still called him a tyrant.].  Chavez demonstrated a deep belief in redemption and forgiveness.  Chavez’s Christianity informed his ‘option for the poor’, the depth and breadth of his commitment to eradicating poverty and his solidarity with the poor against the rich.

Chavez deep-seated aversion and effective opposition to US and European imperialism and the Israeli occupation  were profoundly rooted in his reading of the writings and history of Simon Bolivar, the founding father of the Venezuelan nation.  Bolivarian ideas on national liberation long preceded any exposure to Marx, Lenin or more contemporary leftist writings on imperialism.  His powerful and unwavering support for regional integration and internationalism was deeply influenced by Simon Bolivar’s proposed ‘United States of Latin America’ and his internationalist activity in support of anti-colonial movements.

Chavez’ incorporation of Socialist ideas into his world view was adapted to his longstanding popular Christian [aka Liberation Theology] and Bolivarian internationalist philosophy.  Chavez’ option for the poor was deepened by his recognition of the centrality of the class struggle and the reconstruction of the Bolivarian nation through the socialization of the ‘commanding heights of the economy’.  The socialist conception of self-managed factories and popular empowerment via community councils was given moral legitimacy by Chavez’ Christian faith in an egalitarian moral order.

While Chavez was respectful and carefully listened to the views of visiting leftist academics and frequently praised their writings, many failed to recognize or, worse, deliberately ignored Chavez's own more original synthesis of history, religion and socialism.  Unfortunately, as is frequently the case, some 'leftist' academics [aka 'arm-chair {& often white} revolutionaries] have, in their self-indulgent posturing, presumed to be Chavez’ ‘teachers’ and advisors on all matters of ‘Socialist theory’ [IE: WSWS]:  This represents a style of [white] 'leftist' cultural colonialism, which snidely criticized Chavez for not following their ready-made prescriptions, published in their political literary journals in London, New York and Paris [ditto- WSWS].

Fortunately, Chavez took what was useful from overseas academics and NGO-funded political strategists while discarding ideas that failed to take account of the  cultural-historical, and class specificities of Venezuela.

Chavez has bequeathed to the intellectuals and activists of the world a method of thinking which is global and specific, historical and theoretical, material and ethical and which encompasses class analysis, democracy and a spiritual transcendence resonating with the masses of humanity in a language everyone can understand.  Chavez’s philosophy and practice (more than any ‘discourse’ narrated by social forum-hopping experts) demonstrated that the art of formulating complex ideas in simple language can move millions of people to ‘Make Historynot just study it’.

Toward Practical Alternatives to Neo-liberalism and Imperialism: Perhaps Chavez's greatest contribution in the contemporary period was to demonstrate, through practical measures and political initiatives, that many of the most challenging contemporary political and economic problems can be successfully resolved... - Overseas 'leftist theorists' [aka: 'arm-chair {& often white} revolutionaries' - IE: WSWS], who criticize Venezuela (‘corruption’, ‘bureaucracy’) have profoundly ignored the enormous difficulties of transitioning from a rentier state to a socialized economy and the enormous progress achieved by Chavez...

Dealing w Economic Crisis Without Capitalist Austerity: Throughout the crisis-wracked capitalist world, ruling labor, social democratic, liberal and conservative regimes have imposed regressive ‘austerity programs’ involving brutal reductions of social welfare, health and education expenditures and mass layoffs of workers and employees while handing our generous state subsidies and bailouts to failing banks and capitalist enterprises.  Capitalist economists justify imposing the burden of ‘capitalist recovery’ onto the working class while allowing capital to recover its profits in order to invest.

Chavez’s policy was the direct opposite: In the midst of crisis, he retained all the social programs, rejected mass firings and increased social spending.   Venezuela's economy rode out of the worldwide crisis and recovered with a healthy 5.8% growth rate in 2012.  Thus Chavez demonstrated that mass impoverishment was a product of the specific capitalist ‘formula’ for recovery.  He showed another, positive alternative approach to economic crisis, which taxed the rich, promoted public investments and maintained social expenditures...

Anti-Imperialism in a Time of an Imperialist Offensive: In a time of a virulent US / EU / NATO imperialist offensive involving military invasions, mercenary interventions, torture, assassinations and drone warfare in Iraq, Mali, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Afghanistan and brutal economic sanctions and sabotage against Iran; Israeli expulsions of Palestinians financed by the US; US-backed military coups in Honduras, Paraguay & Haiti- and aborted revolutions via puppets in Egypt & Tunisia- President Chavez, stood as a principled defender of anti-imperialism.  His deep commitment to anti-imperialism stands in marked contrast to the capitulation of Western self-styled ‘Marxist’ intellectuals who mouthed crude justifications for their support of NATO bombing Yugoslavia and Libya, the French invasion of  Mali and the Saudi-French (‘Monarcho-Socialist’) funding and arming of Islamist mercenaries against Syria.  These same London, New York and Paris-based ‘intellectuals’ who patronized Chavez as a mere ‘populist’ or ‘nationalist’ and claimed he should have listened to their lectures and read their books, have crassly capitulated under the pressure of the capitalist state and mass media into supporting ‘humanitarian interventions’ (aka NATO's  so-called 'R2P' bombing) justifing their opportunism in the language of obscure leftists sects.  Chavez confronted NATO pressures and threats, as well as the destabilizing subversion of his domestic opponents and courageously articulated the most profound and significant principles of 20th and 21st Socialism:  the inviolate right to self-determination of oppressed nations and unconditional opposition to imperial wars. While Chavez spoke and acted in defense of anti-imperialist principles, many in the European and US 'left' acquiesced in imperial wars:  There were virtually no mass protests, the ‘anti-war’ movements were co-opted- the UK's ‘Socialist’ Workers Party defended the massive NATO bombing of Libya, the French ‘Socialists’ invaded Mali- with the support of the ‘Anti-Capitalist’ Party.  Meanwhile, the so-called ‘populist’ Chavez articulated a far more profound and principled understanding of Socialist practice, certainly than his self-appointed overseas would-be Socialist ‘tutors’.

No other political leader nor 'leftist' academic, developed, deepened and extended the central tenets of anti-imperialist politics in the era of global imperialist warfare with greater acuity than Hugo Chavez...

In practice Hugo Chavez was the anti-thesis of the overseas intellectual know-it-alls who literally spoke down to the people and who saw themselves as the ‘masters of the world’- at-least, in the micro-world of 'left' academia, ingrown socialist conferences and self-centered monologues.  The death of Hugo Chavez was profoundly mourned by millions in Venezuela and hundreds of million around the world because his transition to socialism was his people's path; he listened to their demands and he acted upon them effectively...

Social Democracy and National Security: In stark contrast to US President Obama- who has assumed the power to assassinate US citizens based on secret information and without trial both in and out of the US, and whose administration has murdered ‘targeted’ US citizens and their children, jailed others without trial and maintains secret ‘files’ on over 40 million Americans...; Chavez never assumed those powers and never assassinated or tortured a single Venezuelan. In Venezuela, the dozen prisoners convicted of violent acts of subversion after open court trials, stand in sharp contrast to the tens thousands of jailed and often framed Muslims and Latin American immigrants in the US.  Chavez rejected state terror; while Obama has special assassination teams on the ground in over 70 countries.  Obama supports arbitrary police invasions of ‘suspect’ homes and workplaces based on ‘secret evidence’ while.  Chavez even tolerated the activities of known foreign (CIA)-funded opposition parties.  In a word, Obama uses ‘national security’ to destroy democratic freedoms while Chavez upheld democratic freedoms and imposed constitutional limits on the national security apparatus.

While Chavez sought peaceful diplomatic resolution of conflicts with hostile neighbors, such as Colombia which hosts 7 US military bases – potential springboards for US intervention- Obama has engaged in open war with at least 7 countries and has been pursuing covert hostile action against dozens of others...{

I don't agree with everything Wsws.org publishes

Although WSWS has made some points about the Venezualan economy that's worth looking at.

A note on the Lincoln flick was sent to WSWS. They didn't respond, but they did post this article (that I felt wasn't enough):

http://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/01/31/abol-j31.html

A note was also sent about them railing against the entire black clergy in michigan, without mentioning that it was some of the black clergy in michigan that helped to get out the "popular vote" that repealed the emergency manager law. I pointed out their non-coverage and non-support leading up to this referendum vote. Now they're screaming about gov. Snyder subverting the will of the people (which he is).

“Washington’s Pope”? Who is Pope Francis I? Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio and Argentina’s “Dirty War”

By Prof Michel Chossudovsky

Global Research, March 16, 2013

Quote:

The election of Pope Francis I has broad geopolitical implications for the entire Latin American  region.

In the 1970s, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was supportive of a US sponsored military dictatorship.

The Catholic hierarchy in Argentina supported the military government. The Junta’s program of torture, assassinations and ‘disappearances” of thousands of political opponents was coordinated and supported by Washington under the CIA’s “Operation Condor”.

Wall Street’s interests were sustained through Jose Alfredo Martinez de Hoz’ office at the Ministry of Economy.

The Catholic Church in Latin America is politically influential. It also has a grip on public opinion. This is known and understood by the architects of US foreign policy as well as US intelligence.

In Latin America, where a number of governments are now challenging US hegemony, one would expect –given Bergoglio’s track record–  that the new Pontiff Francis I as leader of the Catholic Church, will play de facto, a discrete “undercover” political role on behalf of Washington.

With Jorge Bergoglio, Pope Francis I  in the Vatican –who faithfully served US interests in the heyday of General Jorge Videla and Admiral Emilio Massera–  the hierarchy of the Catholic Church in Latin America can once again be effectively manipulated to undermine “progressive” (Leftist) governments, not only in Argentina (in relation to the government of Cristina Kirschner) but throughout the entire region, including Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.

The instatement of  “a pro-US pope” occurred a week following the death of  president Hugo Chavez:

The Truth Behind Pope Francis: Breaking the Silence, the Catholic Church in Argentina and the ‘Dirty War’

Horacio Verbitsky is a leading Argentinean investigative journalist. He was given an International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists in 2001.

Among his books is The Silence: from Paulo VI to Bergoglio, the secret links between the Church and the Navy Mechanics School (2005) and The Flight: Confessions of an Argentine Dirty Warrior (New Press, 2005).

Almost Same Critique for PBS' 'Abolitionists' as for 'Lincoln'

Though the 'Abolitionists' does at-least make Fredrick Douglas one of its featured subjects [trying to make a 'documentary' about Civil War era Abolitionists without him would NOT have been taken seriously]- its main focus is on white abolitionists. But what about Douglas' other Freedom-fighting comtempories IEE: Harriet Tubman & Sojourner Truth- let alone Martin Delaney & Robert Smalls who, though not as well known, like Tubman actually served in the Union Army??!!

Again WSWS calls Chavez a 'bourgeois nationalist & pseudo-socialist' while heaping praise on actual Holly-weird type bourgeois 'liberals' Spielberg's & PBS' {a}Historical 'tales' which effectively white-out Blacks' struggle to end our own enslavement- by whitesHUMM!!!

PS: You've shown clearly in the past that you don't agree w everything WSWS says- I just felt the need to throw in my 2 cents worth.

Follow the money.  Perhpas

Follow the money.  Perhaps WSWS is staying afloat thanks to globalist moneybags like Soros.
