Also, the Trump administration violated a judge's order by sending more than 200 Venezuelan nationals to Honduras and El Salvador, alleging that they are members of the Tren de Agua group and threats to national security. Rodrigo Duterte, former president of the Philippines, is now in the Hague, after the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant charging him with crimes committed during his 6 years in office, including his brutal crackdown on those accused of drug crimes. Duterte’s treatment is in contrast to Benjamin Netanyahu and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant, who travel freely all over the world without any fear that ICC arrest warrants issued against them will ever be acted upon. We’re joined by Ajamu Baraka, Black Agenda Report editor and contributor, who is also Director of the new Black Alliance for Peace project, the North South Project for Peoples Centered Human Rights. He provides analysis.

Darren Mack is co-founder and co-director of Freedom Agenda, an organization devoted to decarceration and system transformation, including closing the Rikers Island jail. In commenting on New York City mayor Eric Adams' plan to allow ICE to operate on Rikers Island, Darren Mack pointed out the history behind the name. Richard Riker was a New York City judge who worked with slave catchers and the kidnappers who captured fleeing enslaved people and free Black New Yorkers to send them to slavery in the south. Darren Mack joins us from New York City to discuss this history, the need to close Rikers Island, and the historical connections with the modern-day carceral state.
