Freedom Rider: The Non-Campaign of 2012

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The biggest bank in the nation loses billions betting on derivatives, but the media are more concerned to report “which celebrities support gay marriage and which do not.” A symbolic comment on gays rates higher than issues of war and peace. “Capitalism has reached its inevitable crisis, but because there is little acknowledgement of this fact, there has been almost no discussion of what that means.”

Freedom Rider: Protesting NATO

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The NATO summit meeting later this month, in Chicago, will be the place “where new Obama administration restrictions on civil liberties will be put into full effect.” Nevertheless, it is necessary to protest NATO’s role as “the armed wing for European and American elites who control the destiny not only of the capitalist nations they represent but of people around the world.” NATO is a club for killers.

Freedom Rider: Journalists in Bed with the President

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

A good time was had by all at the White House correspondents’ dinner. And why not? The corporate media and the White House both serve the same masters: corporate power and U.S. empire. “Is it any wonder that the New York Times, Washington Post and all the networks ignore torture, drone strikes, mass incarceration terror, continued bankster bailouts, high unemployment and endless war?”

Freedom Rider: The War on Black Women and Children

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

White supremacy is on the offensive, especially against Black women. “Black people are punished for driving, for walking down the street, for having children, for putting their children in school, for acting the way children act, and even for having children who are killed by other people.” There is only one option: “Restart the freedom movement and never let it end.”

Freedom Rider: No Justice for Muslims

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The U.S. government has been become so brash, so cynical in its entrapments and pure persecutions of Muslims, it is beyond embarrassment. The shameless cannot be shamed. Khalifa al-Kalili tried to hold a press conference to explain that the government was trying to frame him – so they arrested him on other trumped up charges. “A laundry list of people who have been turned into criminals by our government is useless unless a call to action comes along with it.

Freedom Rider: The ICC is Criminal

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The New World Order under U.S. dominion turns international law on its head and puts criminal-bought flunkies on the judicial bench. America, which is not even a signatory to the treaty that created the International Criminal Court, calls all the shots like a Mafia don. Africans and a few Serbs are the only ones that get arrested, while great crimes against peace masquerade as humanitarian intervention.

Freedom Rider: Being Black is Deadly

by Margaret Kimberley

Injustice is the law of the land for Black people in America. Life cannot be lived safely, when one belongs to the prey population. Even safety devices can get a Black man killed, if they are wired to local law enforcement. The post-mortem might read: “Police say that the dead man wielded a knife, the officer who fired the bullets hasn’t even been named, a recording shows evidence of racial slurs and the family doesn’t believe the police account.”

Freedom Rider: Obama and Trayvon Martin

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The “master of marketing and fakery” was compelled by circumstances to appear concerned about his least favored people: young Black males and their families. President Obama’s most loyal constituents, who usually ask nothing of him, were demanding both an emotional and a substantive response to the Trayvon Martin killing. This was “all very problematic for the president, whose political success is the result of distancing himself from black people at best, and vilifying them at his worst moments.”

Freedom Rider: Justice, Not Drama, for Trayvon Martin

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The global spotlight is shining on Sanford, Florida, where a white vigilante ended the life of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. But publicity also draws its own kind of flies. Obama apologist Al Sharpton will appear at a rally for justice for Trayvon, as will the radio huckster Michael Baisden. “Baisden must be ignored and Sharpton must be watched.”

Freedom Rider: Farewell Congressman Kucinich

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

With the gerrymandered defeat of Dennis Kucinich, the Congress has lost its last, best progressive. “Called crazy or wacky, Kucinich is nothing more than what other Democrats ought to be.” Kucinich stood firm, when all in the Progressive and Black Caucuses folded. “If there is no room for one, not even one true Democrat, then there should no longer be any allegiance to that party.”

Freedom Rider: Liberal Whores

by BAR editor and senior consultant Margaret Kimberley

Call a Georgetown law student a slut, and the liberal universe goes into supernova. Destroy Somalia and Libya, or obliterate due process of law, and the same people just yawn. Attorney General Eric Holder “asserts that the president can in fact decide to kill anyone he wants, as long as he claims that person is a terrorist.” Liberals love the guy.

Freedom Rider: Obama Usurps the GOP

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

If the Republicans have been sounding particularly insane, this year, it’s because Barack Obama has staked out so much traditional Republican political territory, they have been forced into Loony Land. The GOP presidential contenders spend their time taking bizarre positions on social issues as “a direct result of Barack Obama having taken over every other Republican talking point.” Obama has traveled “as far to the right as Ronald Reagan but Democrats still see him as their savior, the facts be damned.”

Freedom Rider: The Media’s True Lies

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

One out of three Americans believes Iran is this country’s greatest enemy – testimony to the corporate media’s powers of distortion and the grotesque national worldview that results. “We are told that Iran is poised to develop nuclear weapons, kill all Israelis, launch terror attacks in the United States and perhaps create bad weather too.” U.S. media have little value “beyond predicting when they will allow a president to begin carrying out bad deeds.”

Freedom Rider: Greece: Your Money or Your Life

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

Greece’s plight proves the Lords of Capital have no more use for democratic facades. The Greeks will be forced to surrender to “the free movement of capital” and take no actions that would “influence the management or control of companies.” For the people’s purposes, the Greek state has ceased to exist. “The sad truth is that citizens of supposedly democratic countries live in dictatorships of, for, and by the rich.”

Freedom Rider: Despots of the West

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

White privilege appears to extend to whole nations. A harsh, but more equal standard would dictate: “If it can be said that Muammar Gaddafi deserved to be butchered like an animal, then the leaders of G-8 and G-20 and G whatever should also face the same fate.”
