Freedom Rider: Biden = Palin
by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley
"Biden advocated
invading Iraq as early as 1998."
Criticizing Sarah Palin, the Republican Vice Presidential
nominee, is easier than shooting fish in a barrel. The governor of Alaska is
under investigation for using her office in an attempt to fire her former
brother-in-law. This advocate of abstinence-only sex education has a pregnant
teenage daughter. The self-proclaimed fiscal conservative left the small city
of Wasilla, population 5,500, $20
million in debt after she left the mayoralty there.
Palin's shortcomings are many, but are actually no worse
than those of Joseph Biden, Barack Obama's running mate. Biden seems to have
all the right credentials to run for Vice President. He has been a United
States senator for more than 30 years and is chairman of the Foreign Relations
Committee. The political establishment and corporate media gave him unanimous
approval, but a closer look reveals that Biden is no better than his Republican
rival.
Biden was himself a presidential candidate in 1988 and in
2008. Both times he was known for a bad case of foot in mouth disease which
resulted in bizarre statements. His declaration that "You
cannot go into a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian
accent," was just one of many memorable jaw dropping comments. When
asked earlier this year if a "northeastern liberal" could appeal to southern voters,
Biden quickly disputed
that description of himself and of his state. "You don't know my state. My state was a slave state. [Emphasis
mine.] My state is a border state. My state has the 8th largest
black population in the country. My state is anything from a northeast liberal
state."
It is interesting that Biden chose slavery as a means of
escaping the liberal label. He certainly knew that his audience sought a
politician who would not give black people so much as the time of day. How
better to make the case than to identify himself and his state with slavery,
the ultimate form of white supremacy? The gaffe-prone politician quickly caught
himself and sought to temper his words by adding that there are colored people
living in Delaware too. But the words were out, and their intent was clear to
anyone paying attention.
"How better to make the case than to identify himself and
his state with slavery, the ultimate form of white supremacy?"
It also wasn't Biden's only racist statement this campaign
year. No one wants to mention that Biden made news with his so-called
compliment of Barack Obama. The collective and very selective amnesia is quite
stunning. "I mean, you got the first mainstream
African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking
guy.... I mean, that's a storybook, man." Obama was clearly telling the
truth when he said that the words didn't offend him. Both men know that insults
directed at black people are tools for electoral success.
Biden is a committed hawk, with little use for
democracy. He also hopes that the rest of us care about it as little as he
does. In 2005 he
fantasized about a nation that willingly paid for nothing except defense
spending. "The Lord Almighty, or Allah, whoever, if he came to
every kitchen table in America and said, 'Look, I have a Faustian bargain for
you, you choose. I will guarantee to you that I will end all terror threats
against the United States within the year, but in return for that there will be
no help for education, no help for Social Security, no help for health care.
What do you do?' My answer is that seventy-five per cent of the American people
would buy that bargain."
Biden enthusiastically voted in favor of the
resolution to authorize the occupation of Iraq. He advocated invading Iraq as
early as 1998 and eagerly spread the lie that
Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. When asked if he regretted
authorizing the use of force he told a blatant, bald faced lie "...everyone
in the world thought he had them. The weapons inspectors said he had
them."
"Republicans
shrewdly appeal to white America's reptilian brain."
The vastly different media responses to Palin
and Biden prove only one thing. The press are comfortable with known
quantities, especially when they adhere to establishment beliefs. Hawks,
whether smart or stupid, are always in with the in crowd.
Not that Palin has cause for worry. Republicans
shrewdly appeal to white America's reptilian brain. The image of a
frontier, gun toting, uber mom facing sneers from eastern liberals is a sure
vote getter. Press pouting about lack of access will diminish quickly, and
Republican tutors will make sure that Palin doesn't fail on the stump.
Barack Obama is sounding more and more like
McCain every day. He declared
on Fox news that the "surge" in
Iraq has " . . . succeeded beyond our wildest dreams." He and McCain both have
awful running mates. The only difference is that one has been awful for a
longer period of time. The bright spot for voters is that they don't have to
spend any more time wondering if there will be change or not. The question has
been answered. You may now spend your time pondering something else.

They deserve each other!
Hey, I think Obama and Palin make a perfect match. Both seem to be prima donnas with no progressive leanings. Anyway they can get on a ticket together?
Another Poignant Commentary
Those who believe in the myth of Joe Biden being the John The Baptist to Barack "Jesus Christ" Obama deliberately fool themselves. Joseph Biden is a corporate warmonger who is no far off from Dick Cheney as most folks believe. On the contrary, Rosa Clemente is a relentless freedom fighter and Community Organizer who would not betray the support of her constituency for political prowess. In the words of Dennis Kucinich, "WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
I like Biden, The more I find out the more I want to know. Bidens Backgournd / Bio He should not be compared to Palin.
Response to "They Deserve Each Other!"
Palin is so rabidly racist, but a close look reveals that you don't have to go back too many generations to find non-white genes in her family. Her next to Obama would only conjure up in her that infamous mix of drooling lust and frothing aggression. Is that too much for that Black man to take. What would it conjure up in him? Don't even go there. But take my word on it, I've observed it Europe, in its raw, authentic form, for years.
Our poor delinquent children. If we had just taken care of them 20,000 years ago, instead of failing the cosmic test and casting them off, we wouldn't have to take the test all over again, a much harder test, under agonizing conditions, no longer with the power to discard them as we did before. Are we aware of this? Refer to Welsing theory, if you are not.
Sorry lot
I mentioned earlier that Obama choosing Biden over Clinton would not work. But the truth is that Obama's 'black magic' is wearing off pretty quickly and he (and his campaign) is becoming more and more intimidated by that female barracuda or pit bull with lipstick. Yes, her name is Palin. They are (Obama et al) beginning to recognize that it's not about right and wrong but about history and white supremacy. The latter will win out all of time as long as it goes unaddressed and not exorcised, completely, from America's psyche, which is something that eloquent Obama felt wasn't necessary from the beginning (and stilll doesn't).
Mr. Obama has played the compromise game to the tilt, and his soul may well hang in the balance, as we speak.
We shall see whether America has been racially transformed or not. The best template or baseline for that indication would be on Election Day. God help us all.
Meanwhile, I agree with you about Biden and Palin:
"The only difference is that one has been awful for a longer period of time."
AMEN
I don't remember who I read who was comparing Obama in '08 to Dukakis in '88, but certainly Biden in '08 is much the same as Lloyd Bentsen in 1988. And if Sarah Palin isn't like Dan Quayle in drag, I'll eat my kufi.
oh by the way Glenn Ford blocked my IP address, so that is why Hartal does not speak anymore against the misrepresentations and nonsense spread through this site.
"They deserve each other"
Obama's choice of Biden was a compromise too far, possibly the error of his life. Whilst I wouldnt go as far as comparing Biden to Palin, when push comes to shove where exactly do we really expect white liberalism to lie? As an African living in Europe, the thought of McCain & Palin is so very depressing.

seperate wings of the same bird
Obama/Biden, Mcain/Palin are just separate wings of the same bird. That bird being a carrier pidgeon for its global corporate masters,GE, Raeython,Mcdonald Douglass etc etc.The dirty tricks and smears employed in this race should surprise no one, especialy blacks. I personaly don't think Obama will win in November, and one of the reasons he in all likely hood won't win , is the double standard the white dominated coporate media, utilizes in their reporting and commentary, and the inherent racism that lingers in many white Americans.Sarah Palin's seventeen year old pregnant daughter is a personal matter, and Palin and her daughter shouldn't be judged.Black teenaged un-wed girls are irresponsible and contribute to the decline of the black community, according to the media.Obama has been on the campaign trail for damn near two years and his life held under a microscope, but "we still don't know who he is" according to the right wing pundits.Palin was a mayor of a small village in alaska
and recent govenor is ready to step in as president if anything should befall Mcain. Obama is a two time state senator, constitutional law expert and is presently a U.S. senator, but his creds. to be POTUS is constantly under fire by the likes of Joe Scarborough, the idiots at Fox and other white pundrity outlets.Obama disavows Farrakahn distances himself from Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and chastises black men on fathers day, to please white folk and it still ain't enough.Naw I don't think he's going to be the next President of the U.S.
