Tea Partyers, Fox News, "Negativity" Against the President? Are These Really Black America's Most Pressing Problems?

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

montage 199From the established civil rights organizations like the NAACP to legions of elected Democrats and preachers and even people like our good friends at Color of Change, the main activity these days is an endless circling of wagons around the president, defending him against the flood of racist bile that spews daily from the likes of Fox News, the Tea Partyers and naysaying Republicans.  But is that really where so much of our energy and creativity should be going?  Aren't there other urgent matters more deserving of the attention of black America's political leadership, our pastors and spokespeople and self-described activists?   Matters like black mass incarceration, record unemployment, and the sinking of vast resources into multiple wars abroad?

Tea Partyers, Fox News, "Negativity" Against the President? Are These Really Black America's Most Pressing Problems?

By BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

On July 19, an item popped up on the email listserv of SNCC veterans and supporters.

Like anything on these kinds of mailing lists, it was the opinion of whoever posted it, no more and no less. But it pretty much summed up the current strategic thinking of a lot of what passes for African American political leadership, our black intelligensia and a lot of self-identified activists. It was bright red and in bold typeface several times normal size, and before going out to the triple digit number of subscribers to the SNCC list, it had obviously been forwarded to hundreds more. It went like this, (only much larger):

We call on ALL who support President Obama to take action.  On August 4th, the President's birthday, we ask those who support him to wear any campaign item from the Presidential election as a demonstration of our ongoing support. Bring out your old campaign paraphernalia.

If you don't have caps, buttons or tee shirts, wear a red, white, and blue tri-color ribbon or clothing on August 4th.  If nothing else, this simple demonstration of support for our President will provide a counteraction to the negativity that spews forth daily.  We can do this.  YES WE CAN. YES WE WILL.

Mark Your Calendar for August 4th! Pass the word on...

As far as most of the black leadership class --- most of our pastors, politicians, professors and such tell it, those are our marching orders. On the president's birthday, we're all supposed to break out those old Obama stickers, shirts and hats, and like the citizens of Oz in The Wiz, we'll flaunt red, white and blue on the president's birthday. Thus we will show our united opposition to the flood of racist invective against the president. We will demonstrate that we are Thus black America will demonstrate that we are the president's millions strong shield against the torrents of “negativity” that issue forth daily from the likes of Fox News and the tea party. That'll show 'em.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just plain dumb? Are the number one problems of black America really the insults and negativity directed at the president by a bunch of crazy people who are not even in power? Are these the times of Shakespeare's Richard III, when the only political yardstick that mattered was whether and how much you did or didn't love the king? Why should Fox News, the tea party, and insults and negativity directed at the president even rank among black America's top ten or twenty problems? And if black America is called upon to make some kind of united political statement in this season of unprecedented joblessness, homelessness, family debt, privatizations and mass incarceration, is flying the red, white and blue to support the president really the most useful thing we can do?

Does “negativity” against the president keep him from addressing mass black incarceration, unemployment, crushing family and student debt, homelessness & ending US imperial wars abroad?

The short answer is no. A longer answer is that we have other matters which are real problems with far greater effect upon the lives of millions of families than the torrent of “negativity” directed at the president.

At the top of any list of black America's real problems is the nation's policy of black mass incarceration, described most thoroughly and eloquently by Michelle Alexander, and a recurring topic in BAR and its predecessors since 2005. The carceral state has been government's main channel of interaction with young blacks for a generation now, despite the fact that their rates of drug use are statistically indistinguishable from those of white youth. African Americans have been locked up and criminalized in such vast numbers that the integrity of millions of our families have been undermined, and the economic futures of entire communities devastated. We are an eighth the nation's population and just under half its prisoners. Why don't our leaders tell us how to make a united political statement about that?

This is the kind of real problem millions of black Americans expected the Obama administration to address.

Does “negativity” against the president keep his administration from addressing black mass incarceration? Of course it doesn't.

Congressional Democrats or the White House could propose tomorrow to sunset all the two strikes, three strikes and mandatory sentencing legislation. It's just a matter of leadership. But instead of calling all Americans together to re-assess the nation's policy of mass incarceration, we have a president and a class of black political misleaders who would just rather not go there.

What about unemployment? Is “negativity” from Fox News, Republicans and the cartoonish tea party the roadblock to creating those millions green jobs that are just over the horizon. Again, the answer is no.

Unemployment is at a six decade high, and the gap between black and white employment is also at a similar high and widening daily. President Roosevelt and the Democratic congresses of the 1930s simply signed checks to put millions of Americans to work. They created public wealth by building bridges and dams, digging new subway lines in cities like Chicago, and constructing thousands of state of the art new schools. The Roosevelt administration even put teaches in local school districts directly on the federal payroll to keep the schools open, the communities viable and the quality of life acceptable.

Does this “negativity” against the president keep him signing the checks to put millions of Americans into new, green, wealth creating jobs? Again, the answer is no.

What keeps the Obama administration from going there is its blind loyalty to Wall Street bankers and their bipartisan neoliberal trickle-down ideology. The economic vision of Barack Obama and congressional Democratis is far closer to Ronald Reagan than to Franklin Roosevelt, even though Republicans have been out of power in Congress since the end of 2006.

Does “negativity” against the president keep him from cutting the military budget?

Does it prevent him from closing a few hundred of America's thousand or so overseas military bases, and ending our direct and proxy wars in places from Iraq and Afghanistan to Colombia, Somalia and Yemen? We know the history and we know the answer.

Early in his campaign Obama pledged withdrawal of one brigade a month from Iraq, and vowed to erase what he called “the mindset” that produced America's unjust wars. By the time he wrapped up the nomination, he had endorsed Bush-Cheney's phony “surge” in Iraq, forgotten his withdrawal pledges, and promised to double the troops in Afghanistan. In his first 36 hours as president, Obama launched drones and cruise missiles against civilians and children in Afghanistan, and soon afterward, in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, as had his predecessor. Did the tea party make him do that? Was it the relentless negativity of Fox News? Was it those naysaying Republicans?

From doubling down on Bush's original Wall Street bailout, to stepping up the Bush-Cheney policies of kidnapping, torture and secret imprisonment, to reversing his opposition to offshore drilling once he secured the Democratic nomination and more, not one of the Obama administration's failures to redeem the promises black America imagined it heard can be laid at the feet of Republicans, Fox News or the tea party. Not one.

In a real sense, the lunatic tea party, cartoonish Republicans, and the outrageous lies of Fox News provide our lazy class of black misleaders in the administration and Congress, and the class of politicians, preachers, professors, business people, self-described activists and wannabes around them a fine distraction from what they can and ought to be doing. The energy and creativity devoted to endlessly circling the wagons around the president sucks the air from every room in the house of black politics. It excuses inaction on matters like black mass incarceration and unemployment, runaway privatizations, and the ever-expanding national security state. It keeps our black misleadership class from having to openly oppose the wars and bailouts that suck up the resources which should be creating jobs and opportunities at home. It's almost God's gift to the administration.

The president doesn't need our protection. He's got the secret service, the armed forces, the CIA and FBI and agencies we don't even know the names of. Our families, our communities and our permanent interests, not the career of one man or the racist insults directed against him, ought to be our chief concern.

What would it look like if the folks on the SNCC listserv, and if our black misleadership class and their acolytes today truly possessed the spirit SNCC had half a century ago? Where would a spirit well grounded in the realities of black America, a spirit impatient with injustice, a spirit reaching through the present for a better world tomorrow lead us? Not to reanimating the tired corpse of the 2008 presidential campaign. Just as SNCC fifty years ago reached well outside and beyond what the wise old political heads believed possible, a spirit of creative struggle would take aim at targets the old political heads of today think are impossible.

If the spirit of SNCC fifty years ago where alive today, it might tell us we ought to wear black and green ribbons, black for the 1.2 million African Americans in prison, and green for those millions of green jobs that are somewhere just over the rainbow.

And we wouldn't be wearing them for just a day. This would not be about the president or his birthday, which matters little to most black families. We could wear them till the administration created 8 million new green jobs, the number vice president Biden admitted have been lost in what he called the Great Recession. We could wear them till the number of African Americans in prison had been reduced by at least half. That wouldn't be a perfect world, but who's asking for perfection. We'd just be asking for progress. Halving the black prison population would not be a perfect world either. It would only bring us down to the level of the Latino prison population, and Latinos are severely over-incarcerated too. But it would be undeniable progress. Is that too much to reach for?

So we won't be wearing red white and blue on the 4th of August. Bet on that. But what about those black and green ribbons? There's an idea....

Bruce Dixon is managing editor at Black Agenda Report and based in Atlanta, and will not be wearing red white and blue any time soon. He's a member of the state committee of the GA Green Party and can be reached at bruce.dixon(at) blackagendareport, or by clicking his name anywhere it appears in red on this site.

Supporting Our President August 4th.

Mr. Dixon,

I just read your article and sad to say how sorry I am that you do not realize the importance of us uniting together to Support Our President in light of the Media Negativity shown to him, despite all the black ills that you so aptly delineated in your article. But, we are all entitled to our opinions. And I for One WILL be wearing Obama paraphernalia August 4th and I'm encouraging all my friends and church members to do the same.

BEVERLY...I AGREE

When it comes to the continuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...and now add Pakistan and Somalia..Obama is WORSE than Bush...and I didn't think this was possible.  I don't know anyone who has recouped the loss of the value of their homes...and I see notices of foreclosures increasing...and is there anyone who doesn't know someone who's lost their job?  Nevermind the $700 or $800 billion TARP.  There are still an estimated 15 million unemployed.  The rate among Black teenagers was estimated at 25%. And then there's the Gulf Oil Spill..day 101 or 103??  Even George Bush had sense enough to stop doing the golf vacations after 9/11.  Not so w/ Obama and the Gulf Oil Spill.  This country is in worse shape than it has been for years.  So...what's FoxNews got to do with it?  NOTHING.

"It's morning in America."

Ummmm...I thought this was "Post-Racial" America???

On Thursday while everybody

On Thursday while everybody was talking about Shirley Sherrod the US renewed ties with Indonesia's military which was responsible for gross human rights abuse in the country of East Timor. The signing tooked place Thursday at the height of the Shirley Sherrod incident. East Timor is a nation populated by a diverse ethnic group called the Timorese. Basically they look Black with some Asian mixing.  East Timor shares an island with Indonesia.

Jakarta, Indonesia (CNN) -- The United States will resume ties with the once-notorious Indonesian special forces after more than a decade-long ban, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates said in Jakarta Thursday.

The U.S. Defense Department lifted an overall ban on training the Indonesian military in 2005 but kept restrictions on the special forces known as the Kopassus, which had been accused of gross human rights violations during years of authoritarian rule.

Human rights groups have documented myriad abuses of the Kopassus, including the disappearance and abuse of government critics. Some have expressed concern over the resumption of military training.

Earlier this year, Human Rights Watch sent letters to Gates and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, opposing Defense Department assistance to the Indonesian military, especially Kopassus. It called a resumption of military ties between the two nations "a mistake" because of what it called a lack of reform and accountability in Indonesia.

Gendercide in East Timor (I),
1975-1998

Gendercidal massacres of males, and in at least one case of females, were prominent in the period immediately following the Indonesian invasion of December 1975. "One of the most bizarre and gruesome ... atrocities" of the Indonesian invasion itself "occurred within 24 hours of the invasion and involved the killing of about 150 people. This shocking spectacle began with the execution of more than 20 women who, from various accounts, were selected at random ... The women were led out to the edge of the jetty and shot one at a time, with the crowd of shocked onlookers being forced at gun-point to count [out] loud as each execution took place." (Carmel Budiardjo and Liem Soei Liong, The War Against East Timor [Zed Books, 1984], pp. 128-29.) Immediately thereafter, however, a typical gendercidal massacre of males took place, according to a source quoted by John Taylor in East Timor: The Price of Freedom (p. 68):

http://www.gendercide.org/case_timor.html

INDONESIA'S FREE PASS

When compared to the Western half of the island of Papua New Guinea which was also annexed by Indonesia in 1975, the East Timorese have come off relatively well. No one in Australia or in other nations of the West seems to have as much of a problem with Indonesians killing people and stealing national resources in New Guinea as they had when it was being done in East Timor. Perhaps the Western human rights industry would care more about the human rights violations being inflicted upon the people on Papua if only the locals would adopt Catholocism and take on Western names like the East Timorese have.

Ron Paul: more moxie in his left nut than Jealous, Al , Jessie J

There is not point in having "black parrots" to mimic the powers that be and spout "received wisdom" pablum, when a White guy, (accused of being a racist by some), speaks truth to power:

http://rawstory.com/2010/01/ron-paul-cia/

US House Rep. Ron Paul says the CIA has in effect carried out a "coup" against the US government, and the intelligence agency needs to be "taken out."

Speaking to an audience of like-minded libertarians at a Campaign for Liberty regional conference in Atlanta this past weekend, the Texas Republican said:

There's been a coup, have you heard? It's the CIA coup. The CIA runs everything, they run the military. They're the ones who are over there lobbing missiles and bombs on countries. ... And of course the CIA is every bit as secretive as the Federal Reserve. ... And yet think of the harm they have done since they were established [after] World War II. They are a government unto themselves. They're in businesses, in drug businesses, they take out dictators ... We need to take out the CIA.

Paul's comments, made last weekend, were met with a loud round of applause, but they didn't gather attention until bloggers noticed a clip of the event at YouTube.

Now, can you imagine these mainstream Negroes speaking truth to power like "that?"  Not on your dear life.  Jealous, Al, and Jessie would rather spit on their mother's grave than call out the CIA for it's hijacking of the US government, drug dealing, money laundering, covert asassinations, and the like.  All of these wonderful things adopted from Nazis via Operation Paperclip.

Ron Paul might be the literal descendants of Nathan Bedford Forrest, Strom Thurmond, and Jesse Helms as some would have us believe.  I don't give a shit.  Anyone who can tell it like it is when it comes to the National Security State, the one that is robbing taxpayers blind through no bids and crony capitalism, and utter waste as Dana Priest and Wm. Arkin reported in WaPo this week, is all right by me.

Why can't the NAACP take on government procurement processes, LET ALONE THE BUILDUP OF THE NATIONAL SECURITY STATE???   They lack the fortitude to attack out and out fraud and wealth transfer to agencies, intelligence gathering ones, focusing most of their attention on Black folk and their attempts at organization.

No one will miss the NAACP when they are long and gone or obscured in our memories by their wanton irrelevancy.  What Ron Paul said is 100X more relevant to me than w/n the Tea Party needs to be "kinder and gentler."

p.s.  I won't miss the "Image Awards" either.  For the record all or most award shows can kiss my tuckus.  All politics all the time.  Tiring of listening to people in a cut throat industry talking about "God." and faking the funk.  Nothing but a Hollywood promo anyway.

p.s.s.  Speaking of the "Image Awards," what happened to the great Black Thespians of age, Belafonte, Sidney P., Calvin Lockhart, and the rest?  I was watching "Uptown Sat. Nite" at the barbershop the other day and thinking how Betty White, Streep, Michael Douglas and other older White thespians can still find work in Hollywood, whereas the Titans of  Black theatre, television and movies can't find squat.  What's up with that shit??

Hey, wtf is Al Gore being a feature on the web page?  Wasn't it Al or his then wifey Tipper who droned on about the negativity of "rap music?"  Short memory or sellout or both?  LOL

Rev Wright, Van Jones, ACORN, now Shirely Sherrod;

Obama's track record has been since the Rev Wright hype - Hyped up by FIXed Noise [FOX so-called News] types has been to throw anyone they target [especially if they're Black] to the FOXes [if anything the Wright affair taught him to do it with a quickness]. So Glenn [Obama is a Racist] Beck targets Van Jones- who co-founded an organization that strategically targeted Beck for slandering Obama as 'a guy who hates white-people'... End result - no challenge to Beck's outrageous remarks or simply ignore his dumb ass, but instead Obama kicks Van Jones to the curb. Next ACORN - & though it was Congress [both the GOP w the Dems quick to jump aboard] which spear-headed the De-fund ACORN act based on a selectively edited & purposely misleading video released on - you guessed it FIXed Noise again; Obama didn't say a word to defend ACORN- which registered many inner-city Blacks & Browns that voted overwhelmingly for him [& the Dems]. He's supposed to be a constitutional lawyer but he didn't even point out that the De-fund ACORN act violated the Constitution!!! Now FIXed Noise targets & slanders another Black in Obama's Admin - Shirely Sherrod [w racism] using the same deliberately misleading tactics -&- before he even gives her a chance to explain her side of the story or even reads the entire transcript [from a speech she gave 20 some-odd yrs ago]; he's got people calling her while she's driving down the hi-way demanding that she quit!!! All he had to do was ask the white farm family who was supposedly aggrieved by Ms Sherrod about her & they would have defended her against these FOXes on the loose in the White-house!!! Hell he even gave Sgt Crowley a chance to explain himself over a beer at the White-house. If this is how he treats Blacks who are supposedly close to him as soon as the FOXes start howling, what should 'ordinary' Blacks expect him to do for them???

Aren't "Equal Protection" Claims important to the NAACP

Inasmuch as the NAACP has not guts to press Obama on federal sentencing reform.  You would think they might press him on other aspects of "equal protection" under the law.  It's bad enough that all of the big banksters steered Blacks into subprime mortgages (who had same credit scores as whites), but it looks like these same banksters have laundered more drug money than Pookie and Ray Ray but an exponential factor:

All in the “Family”: Global Drug Trade Fueled by Capitalist Elites

by Tom Burghardt / July 21st, 2010

http://dissidentvoice.org/2010/07/all-in-the-family-global-drug-trade-fu...

But now a Bloomberg Markets magazine report, “Wachovia’s Drug Habit,” reveals that drug traffickers bought that plane, and perhaps fifty others, “with laundered funds they transferred through two of the biggest banks in the U.S.,” Wachovia and Bank of America.

The Justice Department charge sheet against the bank tells us that between 2003 and 2008, Wachovia handled $378.4 billion for Mexican currency exchanges, “the largest violation of the Bank Secrecy Act, an anti-money-laundering law, in U.S. history.”

“A sum” Bloomberg averred, equal to one-third of Mexico’s current gross domestic product.”

Go for the juggular

Now I'm not sure what "handled" means, but  present Federal Reserve reserve requirements mean that a bank only needs to have 1/10 of an amount to loan out the full amount. That means that for $378.4 billion, Watch-over-yuh was able to loan out and make interest on $3780.4 billion dollars. That's 3.8 trillion dollars.

SO - who really benefits from the drug trade? And is all the talk about securing our borders about stemming the flow of drugs, or maybe more so try to get more of a piece of the action? Afghanistan's lucrative crop is poppies - another black market commodity. You think the US is over their stemming the tide of it? Hell no! Shit if it wasn't for the "black" market we'd of been in the toilet a long time ago. What do you think props up the economy?

One HUGE pressing problem....

is the survival of the planet.  If the NAACP was concerned about peace or the financial wellbeing of Blacks they would challenge the Obama Administrations rank lies about Iran.  It looks like the "Smart Power" crowd is both dumb as shit in addition to being bold faced liars.  Obama's CIA (chocked full of Bush holdovers, he pretty much left Bushies throughout government in place) fumbled the ball on the "Iranian Nuclear Scientist" so-called defection.  These Clowns look increasingly like the Keystone Cops.

http://ipsnorthamerica.net/news.php?idnews=3201

WASHINGTON, 19 Jul (IPS) - Contrary to a news media narrative that Iranian scientist Shahram Amiri has provided intelligence on covert Iranian nuclear weapons work, CIA sources familiar with the Amiri case say he told his CIA handlers that there is no such Iranian nuclear weapons programme, according to a former CIA officer.

Philip Giraldi, a former CIA counterterrorism official, told IPS that his sources are CIA officials with direct knowledge of the entire Amiri operation.

The CIA contacts say that Amiri had been reporting to the CIA for some time before being brought to the U.S. during Hajj last year, Giraldi told IPS, initially using satellite-based communication. But the contacts also say Amiri was a radiation safety specialist who was "absolutely peripheral" to Iran's nuclear programme, according to Giraldi.

Amiri provided "almost no information" about Iran's nuclear programme, said Giraldi, but had picked up "scuttlebutt" from other nuclear scientists with whom he was acquainted that the Iranians have no active nuclear weapon programme.

Giraldi said information from Amiri's debriefings was only a minor contribution to the intelligence community's reaffirmation in the latest assessment of Iran's nuclear programme of the 2007 National Intelligence Estimate (NIE)'s finding that work on a nuclear weapon has not been resumed after being halted in 2003."

If the NAACP was concerned about peace and justice they'd call out Obama for his cowardly lies about the Iranian "nuclear" programme that Obama's own CIA said was scuttled back in 2003.  Obama is worse than Bush and his Special Plans" propaganda unit.  Obama's boys thought Amiri would be their "Curveball" instead it looks like a swing and a miss.  But that won't stop Obama's constant war peddling and lies.  What will the NAACP say about his constant warmongering? Whaat would be the economic effect on Blacks folks if there's a war with Iran?

This little punk is going to get us all in deep shit.  Doesn't the NAACP understand what MLK talked about, that the War on Poverty can't be waged until Imperial Wars are stopped.   These Elite Sell outs will be supping with Obama at his estate in the Hamptons when they all cash in for selling out their race.  And then, sadly, we'll be treated to seeing them in the front rows at the sorry "Image Awards."  The NAACP doesn't even have the fucking common sense to speak out against Obama's Imperialism or US imperialism the WH Buttboy is prosecuting.  The NAACP doesn't have the nerve or moral fiber to say cut the military budget and replensish the social safety net.  They are as worthless as Obama.

DO NOT TRUST THOSE LOOKING FOR YOU DEMISE!

The other day, Obama's VP, Joe Biden, looked at every Black Community in the eye and said "The Tea Party is not racist organization and President Obama feels the same ". Biden cannot criticize his fellow whites!

Less than a day later and relying purely on concocted story from right wing nuts and Fox News, the Secretary of AgricultureTom Vilsack in coordination with NAACP found one racist black racist an African woman by the name of Shirley Sherrod and dismissed her from her job.

NAACP is the civil rights organization which caters to most, if not all, black elites including those in the Congressional Black Caucusr. It is difficult comprehend that NAACP acted without consulting the Congressional Black Caucus! Amazing enough, Mr. Jealous could not obtain a video tape that was produced by a branch of NAACP before  relying solely on Fox news and right wing nuts! This is shocking!

There is no doubt that there must have been real reasons behind the ascent of Barrack Obama’s to the presidency. Whatever those reasons turn out to be eventually, it is clear that the types of blacks who may benefit from Obama’s presidency are those elites who have been selected to carry out and disseminateorders given to them by those unelected advisers surrounding President Obama to the rest of black population (99.99% of them).

There were clear indications of roles expected of any black elite selected by Democratic Party bosses at the time when Billary Clinton campaign forces started dividing black communities into toxic and non-toxic groups. People like Rev. Jeremiah Wright or those who think like him are considered too toxic and are not welcomed. Barrack Obama was either forced or conveniently chose to distance himself from such people and eventually threw them under the bus. The very people who were running Billary Clinton’s campaign and demanding that a distinction between toxic and non-toxic blacks be made are now top Obama’s advisors in the White House.  Bill and Hillary are in charge of the foreign policies. These are the same policies directed at killing and displacing of millions of Black Africans in the Congo Basin where 6 million Africans have died.

NAACP and Congressional Black Caucus are loyal to those groups who give them operational funds and foot the bills for their elections or re-elections to Congress. Their loyalty is also given to the Democratic Leadership Council which is responsible for selecting those Black folks considered to “non-toxic” to Democratic Party bosses. Believe me, majority of blacks are in the toxic category. The black elites cannot afford to do or say anything that is contrary to the bosses in the Democratic Party. After all, these are the people who guarantee their livelihoods! This is the system that has failed to see factors affecting the black communities like joblessness, the mass incarceration of its youth, crushing family and student loan debts, homelessness and constant harassments of black youths in order to build some future criminal databases containing their names (New York City).

The Republican Party does not give a damn about the needs black people. The Democratic Party bosses only select those black elites they want to persuade and herd the rest of blacks to the polling station every election circle. That is the sole interest the Democratic Party has in associating with any black person!

Many animal species are always on the look out for predators that pose threats to their family. Going against his own kind is a trait only demanded of the Black community wherever they are on earth and the results have been deadly. The participating black elites have voluntarily joined those forces engaged in the eradication of black people using all means possible! Black elites must know that white people of all parties are not interested in mingling with them; so working towards achieving that goal is a one-sided waste of efforts! You can rely on a person only interested in your demise to help you. That is what is called suicide!

HOW COMES OTHER COMMUNITIES ARE NOT FORCED TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES  FROM THE FOLKS TOXIC AMONG THEM!

DON'T BLAME FOX NEWS FOR SHERROD'S FIRING

FoxNews did not do any reports about Sherrod until several hours after she'd already been forced to resign by the Obama administration.

As for Sherrod...Ron Wilkins did an "eye-opening" report on the Sherrods he knew:

http://www.counterpunch.org/wilkins08022010.html

The Story of Annie Hawkins and New Communities, Inc.
The Other Side of Shirley Sherrod

By RON WILKINS

Imagine farm workers doing back breaking labor in the sweltering sun, sprayed with pesticides and paid less than minimum wage. Imagine the United Farm Workers called in to defend these laborers against such exploitation by management. Now imagine that the farm workers are black children and adults and that the managers are Shirley Sherrod, her husband Rev. Charles Sherrod, and a host of others. But it’s no illusion; this is fact.

The swirling controversy over the racist dismissal of Shirley Sherrod from her USDA post has obscured her profoundly oppositional behavior toward black agricultural workers in the 1970s. What most of Mrs. Sherrod’s supporters are not aware of is the elitist and anti-black-labor role that she and fellow managers of New Communities Inc. (NCI) played. These individuals under-paid, mistreated and fired black laborers–many of them less than 16 years of age–in the same fields of southwest Georgia where their ancestors suffered under chattel slavery.

If this had come from one of the "right-wing" websites, I would have been suspicious...but the article was posted at the very liberal CounterPunch website..and written by a long-time respected member of the Civil Rights Community.

THE INTERCHANGEABLE PARTY STATE

I constantly challenge people to compare and to contrast the behavior of the two major political parties (as well as that of the minor league parties) when it comes to the dealing with the interests of other groups such as the Irish-Americans, the Jews, Wallstreet, White Christrian and evangelical churches, Police unions, etc. and how the political parties respond to the interests of Black people. In nearly all cases, political parties in this country either ignore us and our interests, actively run against us and our interests, or seek to manipulate us while giving us as little as possible. It has long been accepted political practice by so-called political leaders in this systems to treat Blacks and their interests as alien and hostile to the natural workings of so-called mainstream politics, and to pride themselves on their success in making a public show of defying them. Of all of the ethnic, racial, and cultural groups in this country, only Blacks are expected to water down their expectations and demands and tailor them to fit the political platforms of the major parties. As long as the American political party system insists upon treating Black people as either a problem, or as an exploitable and expendable resource, non of them are owed any degree of loyalty, let alone the kind of blind one-sided loyalty that many partisans of one camp or the other appear to be locked into. We need to learn that that a one-sided love affair with any political party is not a love affair at all. It's a dangerous form of dependancy.

Brilliant Commnetary

I think those of us who arent sippin Obama aide now see the fallacy in this system, and the so called black elites are just white ruling class flunkies they have got where they ware but their European bloodlines, self harted and conforming to the neo conservative liberal racist agenda. I enjoyed your comments!

Because they have principles and a nut sack

in answer to your question.  Black enunchs cannot be Black leaders.  They are worthless pawns and a 5th column among us.

The Shirley Sherrod firing: Once again, the Obama administration cowers before ultra-right

By David Walsh
22 July 2010

"The firing of US Department of Agriculture (USDA) employee Shirley Sherrod by the Obama administration, on the basis of false allegations of racism, was one more shameful and cowardly concession to the extreme right. All the administration’s backtracking and apologies, and even a job offer, doesn’t alter the fact."

Mary Frances Berry, former chairwoman for the US Commission on Civil Rights under President Jimmy Carter, told Politico.com, “We now know for sure that the Obama administration fears Fox and right-wing media more than making sure they have the facts.”

The NAACP also fell into line Monday night, attacking Sherrod, without even examining the contents of her speech. NAACP President Benjamin Jealous released a statement in which he said, “Racism is about the abuse of power. Sherrod had it in her position at USDA. According to her remarks, she mistreated a white farmer in need of assistance because of his race. We are appalled by her actions, just as we are with abuses of power against farmers of color and female farmers.”

In regard to the NAACP, Sherrod told CNN, “The NAACP has not tried to contact me one time … I would have appreciated—when you look at my history of civil rights, I would have appreciated having the NAACP at least contact me … contact me to try to get the truth about what happened."

Obama and the NAACP fear one racist white man, Glen Beck, more than they fear 20 million niggas.  Who's more pathetic, Obama, the NAACP, or "we the (Black) people??" If Bush had done this the water cooler/backyard/barbershop chatter would have reached a crescendo, but sadly, Negroes are now walking around head to the ground avoiding conversation of what they know in the heart of hearts is true, Obama is a weak bitch and sell out opportunist, who treasures what white folks think (even the most virulent racist ones) moreso than what Black folks think.   The truth hurts some like a mofo so they keep silent and remain stupid.

Looks like the only ones "racist" in Obama's Post-Racial world are Black folk.  Obama sold out his fellow punk, Skip Gates, so what do we expect.

p.s.  I've said here time and time again for months if not years Obama has a character defect.  He's simply fucking weak and unprincipled.  (I bet Biden and the boys jones on his ass in the sauna every week, talking about what a "smart" punk he is, laughing behind his back how they manipulate him.  Too bad, a man can't climb your back unless it's bent.)

Mary Frances Berry

Obama has exposed himself and the thing you need to understand is this, Obama and Jealous are mulattoes and maybe they their white parents gave them some racist views I think they are always trying to make blacks seem as equally racist of whites, never focus on black issues and seem to have disdain for the same people they are living off of.

Black "Leadership" = Mulatto Folly!

The long history of mixed race (or mutts as Barry publicly called them!) folks being used as figureheads of the so-called Black organizations will never end because the orgs get much of their funding/agenda from white-controlled foundations. The NAACP today also gets a large chunk of their money from older Black women paying dues, yet they threw Ms. Sherrod under the bus in a heartbeat. All the pretentious men preening before national cameras representing these groups are either directly mixed or multi-generational mixes who look barely Black. That phony Julian Bond (married to a white woman) comes to mind. The day the NAACP, Urban League, etc fall apart should be a day of celebration.

No! Misguided, emotional, jerk-fest guided by "symbolism"

There are so many concrete, utilitarian, meaningful objectives/missions.  For those who say, we Neo-Black Nationalists just "complain" about the system, here's five, I can gladly give you 10 or 20, without even touching on foreign policy.  It's not a question of "ideals" it's a question of structural, pragmatic IMPLEMENTATION vs. rhetoric, and devil-be-damned moxie.  It's a question of being a sell out vs. a man.  It's a question of will power and vision.

1. The "too big to fail banks (acutally psuedo-banks) that received over $23 Trillion from taxpayers, who are now bigger than ever are, sitting on "shadow" inventories of foreclosed homes, in the tens if not hundreds of thousands.  They are doing this to artifically inflate the market and hence their earnings and minimize their loan losses.  Why are US citizens allowing this market manipulation to occur?  Releasing this shadow inventory might suppress bank stocks and earnings and capital reserves, but who gives a shit, IT'S OUR MONEY, and it would make housing more affordable, rental units too.  I won't even digress into the fact that these so-called banks are not even borrowing for capital investment and growth, the shit most (naively these days) associate with Wall St.

2.   Why not implement hands-on training programs in the building trades/crafts?  Benefits:  non-exportable work(er) base, that can alleviate homelessnes and rehab dilapidated homes offering safer more fiscally stable neighborhoods and decent and affordable housing.  This training could be coupled with some of Van Jones-type recommendations about creating jobs by retrofitting homes to make them more energy efficient:  solar panels and the like.  The Building Trades and the Green Jobs go hand in hand.

3.  The workforce in #2 could be utilized to empower activists and lawmakers to more aggressively make policy/legislative pushes regarding modifications and exemptions to zoning/ building codes, homesteading, title clearance, tax abatemet, and other long-standing planning principles.  This would alleviate the "red tape" in implementing the worforce training/community development programs.  There is absolutely no reason, given the shadow inventories of housing stock, give the reported inventories of housing stock, given rehabilitable housing stocks people should live in substandard housing.

4.  Motivate, encourage, organize, "shame" (do whatever the f***k is necessary) for black Millionaires to put their money in:  (1) investing, building and organizing their own cultural institutions and think tanks, (2) organize micro-lending mechanisms and promote private groups investment clubs.  Btw, I don't want to hear that bullshit about no money in the "ghetto" nobody buys that shit anymore.

Excerpt:

"A significant portion of urban consumers continue to be unbanked and under-banked," said Urban Trust's president, Dwight L. Bush. "We actually see these communities as viable, and our mission is . . . to bring these consumers into the financial mainstream, help them to become homeowners, to become entrepreneurs, and help them to create and maintain wealth in their neighborhoods."

5.  Aggressively push for reform of federal sentencing laws and shift of resources from incarcertion to reentry.  Push for comprehensive review of federal sentencings involving crack cocaine, a national commission that WILL make policy/legal recommendations to alleviate the mass incarceration of African Americans.

So there you have it folks.  Not just "complaints" and "whining" like some of you whiners like to say, but simple, direct, doable, recommendations.  And I should add, focus on African Develoment and fund trade missions and peace missions, and whatever the hell we need to link the Black Middle Class to opportunities to develop equitable and mutually beneficial trade relations, cultural exchanges, and/or political/strategic considerations with Africa.  WTF?  Are we going to wait on Clinton or Obama do help Africa?  You see what kinda "help" they giving Haiti as we speak???

NOTHING THAT I SAID IS IMPOSSIBLE OR "DREAMY."

But, Blacks are too caught up in assimilation and integration and the like, are so worried about how whites will react to them (actually) pulling themselves up by their bootstraps (lol) that they can't function, "insane" as BAR wrote last week.  The NAACP long ago lost it's relevancy by focusing on integration, and "moving on up,"  rather than "dead presidents."  What this has done, and other Civil's Rights Movements akin to them have done: is to brainwash Black People into believing that success is measured by an Anglo/European standard.  It explains to this very day why we get a "nut" when some Black person graduates from an "elite" institution, it's why Negroes hump on Obama's "Harvard Law Degree."   Fuck all that, Tuskeegee, Meharry, Atlanta University, Howard and other HBCs produced far more intellects, trail-blazers and leaders for the benefit of the Black Community than Harvard and Yale ever DID, or ever WILL.

The NAACP can't even fund itself, dependent upon White donors.  The NAACP just threw one of it's own members under the bus based upon it's chickenshit, timid, pussified response to a Right Wing Media hatchet job , the same hatchet job applied to ACORN.  Which, btw, where was the NAACP on that?  ACORN positively impacts Black Neighborhoods far more than the NAACP.

Didn't this poor woman speak at the invitation of HER local NAACP?  Did they bother to get the whole video, talk to the lady, talk to their local chapter members, or did they collapse like pussy's so they wouldn't piss of their white donors?  When you look at the NAACP's and the Obama's administation pussified, scary-ass, half-ass researched response to the affair, it's really all you need to know as to whether the bullshit they spouting is relevant.

The NAACP choses to make itself irrelevant, just like Obama or the CBC.  Were they pushing this post-racial bullshit too, were they deluded enough to think, espescially with the onset of austerity, that Whites would cotton well to a Black president, do they really think most of us really give a shit that racism is alive and well?   Racism has been and always will be problematic, that's all folks need to know.  Again, go back to my "Tony Brown Revisited" post from earlier this week.

Sadly, with it's "Resolutions," and it's punk-job regarding Ms. Sherrod, they've (rightfully) made themselves EVEN MORE IRRELEVANT.  Blacks always get caught up in symbolic bullshit.  Them days are long over.  I actually thank both Obama, the NAACP, and the Tea Party for the collective wake-up call.

Stop worrying about what people who don't give a fuck about you say!  Just do the damn thing.   You gone wake up one day and find out you that's your only option any damn way.  There are no mainstream institutions that can protect and help and assist the bulk of African Americans, that should be clear.  So where does that leave you folks?

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-white-house-usda-ap...

Awesome.

Thank you. You know if whites knew what "black nationalists" were really about - they may just realize they have more in common with y'all than the system they beg to defend all the time.

CONVENIENTLY OMITTED

Conveniently omitted in all of the contrived fuss and fury in the so-called mainstream media over a black official admitting that while she was at the Dept. of Agriculture she did not do as well as she could have for a White Georgia farmer and his family some 24 years ago, is the fact that this is the same Dept. of Agriculture which has been found liable for the deliberate undermining and in many cases, the outright destruction of the livlihoods of many thousands of Black farmers and their families all across the South for decades! This was done in collusion with government at the federal, state, and local level all of whom looked the other way while Black farm families were systematically denied the loans that nearly all farm operations of any size need in order to get crops in and out of the ground and to the market in a timely manner. After using the legal process in order to drag their feet and strip many entitled Black farm families of their share of the settlement, the Dept.Of Ag. and the U.S. government have yet to release the funds to the families. The much over-rated Obama Administration as well as the House and Senate had no such problems finding funds for their mostly white Wallstreet buddies during their self-inflicted financial meltdown last year. One can also compare and contrast the handling of the Black farmers' paltry "settlement" payments to this government's actions in Europe against banks in Switzerland and elsewhere on the behalf of the Jewish community. If this is how post racial America intends to do things, then I'd prefer to have my old, openly racist America back. The disingenuousness of "Post Racial America" is getting really old, really fast!

INSTITUTIONS NEEDED

Your concern about what the real agendas of rich black people running think tanks would be is very legitimate. In spite of that risk, the fact is, we still desperately need institutions that we control in order to take the burden of dealing with our myriad institutional and cultural problems off the backs of a few talented individuals. We should know by now that our enemies consider such people to be easy targets. They can be always be out financed, out shouted, or simply outlasted by the systems of oppression that are already in place. Like our enemies, we need institutions that anticipate and plan for the future, not just react to each passing crisis. I believe that we can just as easily create progressive/leftist think tanks that work for our interests as we can recreate the ineffective (for us) reactionary think tanks that Whites are so fond of. That is our choice. Our long term goal needs to be the elimination of what I call the global "White Veto." As of now, there is no where on Earth where some Black Leader, a group of Blacks, or a Black nation can do anything against the interests of the global system without the approval of some White individual or of White controlled institution such as the UN or the IMF. Until Black people break out of the shadow of the "White Veto" like the Chinese have, we are only playing games.

That's true, but.....

The Zionist ones work pretty damn well, the neo-con and neo-liberal ones work pretty damn well.  I hear what you saying, it's valid, but I'm talking about funding OUR freedom not mimicing the Heritage Foundation, the Hoover Institute or AIE.  We don't have to mimic their values, piss on their values. What if BAR were given $150K (which aint shit in the scheme of things) to ensure their contined existence?

Blacks don't invest in and build their own institutiosn, and we'll remain second or third class until we do.  The Boys and Girls Choir of Harlem went bankrupt last year, (in a country where black entertainers gross billions) who is funding the Schomberg?  Look at how they fucked the woman working for the Ag Dept. for fear of offending Faux News listeners?  Ain't nobody going to look out for us except ourselves.  And I ain't talking these mainstream sellouts.

I mean wealthy Blacks saying "stop fucking around in Africa, we're building bridges and enterprises there, no more arms to the Congo, no more pollution in the Niger Delta???  What's so radical and frightening about that?  Don't we want peace and prosperity on earth?  I mean, goddamn, grow a friggen pair out of friggen self interest.  Fuck what white's think, they trying to wrap up the contracts and contacts in Africa they bullshitting you that you can't get. (that diatribe is directed at the people we criticize not you of course).  I know you get it Bev, but come on this shit, this cowardice is beyond insane, it's suicidal self-hatred.

OBAMA CAN FEND FOR HIMSELF

I agree that President Obama is quite good at taking care of himself (especially at some Black person's expense), so, in spite of my total contempt for his enemies both within the so-called mainstream media and among the opposition parties, I will not be coming out in support of him on August 4, or at any other time. Not even at gunpoint. Be forewarned, however, if the so-called Tea Party ever does gain power in this country, every issue on that laundry list of things that which you (and I) believe that Black leadership needs to focus on solving will either remain at the same crisis level, or become even worse. In general, most members of the so-called the Tea Party and similar groups are quite content with the current state of affairs when it comes to the ongoing process of oppression and subjugation Blacks in America. These people believe that there is no significant anti-Black bias in 2010 America and that all of Black peoples' problems are a result of mental and moral shortcomings which are unique to Black people only. I find it interesting that whites who consistently make statements of this nature about the alleged character flaws of an entire group of people always insist that they are not being racist or that such views are not racist. Hating President Obama and/or his policies does not make such people either our friends or allies. Someday the Obama administration will be gone. Since these groups are actually in agreement with many of the ways and means of the corrupt and coercisive system which they claim to hate and fear, the eventual target of their so-called rage will always be us.

Look at Sherrod

The NAACP, Obama White House threw Sherrod under the bus, a woman whos Civil Rights Legacy allowed this worthless Obama to get into the white house, fuck Obama. Black America has more concern and compassion for a rich ruling class lacky that the masses of young black men. It was Obama who said racism was no longer an excuse of why one cant achieve, and as soon as his Presidency is in trouble this half a negro pulls the race card. LOL I thought it was about rich vs. poor. Then Obama is rich and we should be opposing him. 2012 when its not a black president, no black senators, what will black America do? Make demands to a white President that it didnt Obama. white folks have checked mated us for centuries. Obama is no more or no less racist than any white President we have had. by Racist I mean he wants to maintain majority white male control over media, resources and global warfare. Obama has not done one thing to earn support of the African communiy in America. I know the media can brainwash you, and the Neo racist Left Wing have an investment in Obama, but all this support for Obama on the bounds of racism, is hypocrital and racist. African Americans are in a fucking great depression, and Obama threw black men and th eblack working class under the table, when he didnt have to. Obama has this arrogant attitude that them rich white liberals have given him. Obama is nothing like Booker T Washington, Booker T had a stratgey which was a poor one, Obama is just a good old fashion opporunist with no vision other that be a ruling class lacky. Obama loves getting in from of the white media, and saying racism is no an excuse, TOUGH LOVE, and all these empty rhetoric becuase the white folks let him through. Now this European with partial African ancestry is using black surrogates Farrkhan, Sharpton, Steve Harvey to get black support with him when we have nationawide unemployment of 40% and this negro cant do shit for you but cant invest billions in Pakisitan. Its time for African Americans to seperate, the loyalist who want to be all up in white people shit need to run with Obama, let the black masses stick together and build our own communities and economic power.

ANOTHER SISTA SOULJA MOMENT

Obama has built his credibility as a leader among all too many of his white supporters by constantly demonstrating to them, that he agrees with their view that any black person who does not go along with whatever the white consensus is at a given moment on any issue from foreign policy to police brutality, or anti-Black racism, needs to be swiftly and ruthlessly put down. In the Sherrod case, the Obama Administration's reflexive impulse to stage a "Sista Soulja Moment" whenever white America starts grumbling darkly about the behavior or about statements made by some uppity Black person, blew up in its collective face. Good! I can only hope that this blow-back happens frequently enough to the Obama Administration and the NAACP and to other members of the "Mulatto Overseers Club" to embarass them into changing their ways. These people need to learn the White America is not god, and that Blacks in America, whether they are elected or not, do not have to agree with every White consensus on every issue. Those in the "overseer class" need to learn that many of us Black folk do not share their unreachable goal of obtaining acceptance from Whites by constantly trying to appease them.

Let's see if there is a WH "beer garden" moment

Forget the fact that what Sherrod said was distorted by Faux News and Brietbart, who, btw, LIED ABOUT ACORN, focus on the fact that it was said 24 YEARS AGO!!!

What more proof do we need that Obama is a rank sell out, uncle tom to the max??  24 Years ago, EVEN IT WAS TRUE.

As B African said, the irony and hypocricy is galling.  The Post-Racial President, what a farce.  Let's see if Obama takes up Sherrod and have a conversation about race, not the fake conversation he engaged in, the fantastic lies he told, the American Mythology bullshit that rolled off his lips, let's see if Sherrod gets a beer or chianti at the WH.  Wake up people, aren't we starting to see a pattern here?

Van Overboard: Obama's Problem With Strong Black Voices

Excerpt:

If one actually takes the trouble to read Wright's remarks before the Press Club -- which almost no journalist in America did, although they are easily available at the Washington Post's web site -- it is difficult to see what in God's name all the brouhaha is about. Even Wright's most "controversial" remarks -- about AIDS, Louis Farrakhan and, in Obama's words, "equating America's wartime efforts with terrorism" -- are couched in plausible contexts, and are actually more nuanced than the, well, caricature of them that Obama condemned. Most ludicrous of all were Obama's hysterics about the "divisiveness" of Wright's remarks, when the theme of racial and cultural and religious reconciliation was sounded over and over throughout the appearance.

At any rate, let's do something really radical here. Let's actually see what Wright actually said. The quotes below are from the WP transcript. Now, I realize that reading a transcript is different from watching a "spectacle," as Obama put it, on the Tee-Vee. ... But still, there are scattered pockets out there where words still mean something, so let us consult the text. Here's Wright on the "black church":

http://www.chris-floyd.com/component/content/article/1-latest-news/1834-...

This white man loving uncle tom, with no spine most likely will say to Sherrod's "invite," "thanks but no thanks."  Among other things, he doesn't want to have to explain why he didn't do his homework and why he caved on something said 24 YEARS AGO, let alone taken out of context.  He doesn't want the media tying the pressure from the WH to Vilsack, despite Vilsack's lies about not receiving WH pressure.  He doesn't want a "convesation on race," unless it's a conversation with Plouffe and Gibbs and Rahmn dictating him rhyme and verse, and the White controlled media putting it's spin on it.  His "conversation with race" consists of scripts from a teleprompter and poorly contrived "Sista Souljah Moments."

This man, the NAACP and the rest of the shills perpetrating as "Black Leadership" are more than disgusting, they are downright dangerous.

We can only hope and pray Blacks get some kind of epiphany, sadly I remain skeptical.  Maybe it will all be crystallized and become manifest when the social security cuts and medicaid increases kick in.  Maybe when the Sec. 8 vouchers start drying up folks will get an epiphany.
