Barack Obama, Tell the Truth About Ethiopia!

Alemayehu G. Mariam

Last month, President Obama declared that Ethiopia has a “democratically elected government.” That is the country where, in May elections, the ruling party won all the 547 seats in parliament, thrashing all the 78 other parties. If there ever has been an election won by one party by 100 percent that is democratic, then there is indeed the famous purple cow that nobody has ever seen or the pink elephant that people like Obama see often.

Freedom Rider: Obama’s Africa Hypocrisy

By BAR editor and Senior Columnist Margaret Kimberley

The president's visit to East Africa has been the occasion for the same kind of hypocritical finger pointing Barack Obama usually reserves for his frequent hectoring of Black America, this time using "gay rights" as the standard, It's a standard which he would never use to lecture America's other vassals like the bloodstained beheading backward Saudi regime.

The UN vs Eritrea

by Thomas C. Mountain

The United Nations, under the imperial sway of the United States, continues its vicious sanctions against Eritrea, an African country on the Red Sea that seeks only to claim its place as an independent nation. President Obama wants to name Eritrea’s nemesis as head of USAID. “Gayle Smith helped launch the Ethiopian invasion of Eritrea which culminated in a May-June 2000 war that left almost 150,000 dead Africans.”

The Big Lie Behind the Eritrean Exodus Across the Mediterranean

by the Real News Network

Eritrea is one of the few African nations not part of AFRICOM, which makes it an enemy of the US. To destabilize the Eritrean regime, the EU grants expedited entry and semi-legalization to Eritreans who reach its shores. Hence migrants from across Africa, says Glen Ford, are masquerading as Eritreans, enabling the US and EU to paint a false picture of alleged mass exodus from that country which will serve to justify future interventions.

Empty Boxes – The West and Ethiopia’s Elections

by Dr. Fikrejesus Amahazion

The ruling party in Ethiopia has gotten away with another sham election, this time with very little protest from the western powers, with whom the regime in Addis Ababa is strategically aligned. “The international community provides the regime with carte-blanche to continue its repressive rule,” including suppression of rival parties and oppressed nationalities, and massive land giveaways.

Susan Rice and Museveni Shake Hands on Crimes in Central Africa

Ann Garrison's picture

by Ann Garrison, with Milton Allimadi

The U.S. project to make South Sudan an independent country has descended into catastrophe and mass death. Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni, Washington’s hit man in the region, intervened in the South Sudanese civil war. “Now what we have in South Sudan is a conflict between an invading army, Gen. Museveni’s army and a South Sudanese army.” Museveni’s previous interventions in the Congo left millions dead.

Africa’s Cuba: Eritrea Endures 13 Years of Illegal Occupation and Sanctions

by Elias Amare

Eritrea, a thoroughly secular nation of six million people that won its independence from much larger Ethiopia, has been subjected to withering sanctions imposed at the behest of the United States. The U.S. and Ethiopia make the ludicrous claim that Eritrea has aided the Islamic fundamentalist Al-Shabaab, in Somalia. “Punishing innocent Eritrea based on false premises has neither brought peace to Somalia nor security to the Horn of Africa.”

Freedom Rider: Why Al-Shabaab Kills

by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley

The whole world knows of the horrors inflicted on Kenyan civilians by Somalia’s Al-Shabaab. But, the “corporate media tells Americans little if anything about Somalia’s road to ruin,” paved by the United States and its Ethiopian and Kenyan allies. “If there were true justice in this world the United States and its puppets would not only have to leave that country but make restitution as well.”
