Harold Ford began
Election Day with a photo op at the Little Rebel
Club.
Michael
Steele lost. He ran for the Senate in Maryland
with several strikes against him. Too many white
voters are loath to pull the lever for black
candidates, no matter what they tell pollsters. To
make matters worse, running as a Republican wasnt
particularly helpful in 2006. Steele also didnt
believe his own hype about blacks and the
Republican party. We wont vote for Republicans,
even when they look like us. So brother Steele
produced campaign literature and bumper stickers
that claimed he was a Democrat. Steele was more
impressive when he claimed to be attacked by a bag
of Oreo
cookies. Steele is an ugly,
cynical bastard and his defeat is good news.
Ohio
Secretary of State Ken Blackwell helped steal the
votes of thousands of black people to deliver that
state for Bush in 2004, but he was trounced in his
gubernatorial campaign in 2006. Blackwell sold his
soul to Satan and got only a concession speech in
return. Blackwells defeat is indisputably
good.
Michael Steele is an ugly, cynical
bastard and his defeat is good news.
Speaking
of low life Uncle Toms, Ward Connerly reared his
truly ugly head once again. The man single
handedly responsible for ending affirmative action
in the state of California winded his way to
Michigan in order to make that state safe for
white supremacy. So much so, that he welcomed the
support
of the KKK.
"If
the Ku Klux Klan thinks that equality is right,
God bless them. Thank them for finally reaching
the point where logic and reason are being
applied, instead of
hate."
Thanks
to Uncle Ward, Michigan voters passed a
proposition doing away with affirmative action.
Connerly is a very sick self-hater and he is
always very bad news.
There
was good news for every American in the state of
South Dakota. That states legislature outlawed
abortion but voters had the last word and handily
defeated that law. Good news indeed. There was
good news in Rhode Island, where convicted felons
on parole and probation had their voting rights
restored. Proposals to raise the minimum wage
passed everywhere they were on the ballot and that
can only be good.
Michigan voters
passed a proposition doing away with affirmative
action.
Elections
are true touchstones for the nation, bringing some
in, and sending some packing. Yet it is easy to
forget that the system didnt change on November
7th. Rumsfeld is gone, but Bush promises not to
end the occupation of Iraq.
The
bad news is that we will have even more work to
do. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid must be told that
we demand hearings on impeachment. They must be
reminded that they are now in the cat bird seat
because most voters want the U.S. out of Iraq.
Dont be shy in speaking up. After all, they work
for you. That is the good news. The bad news is,
they dont really believe
it.
